Hanging on by a.....

This little poplar tree is a favorite of mine, a volunteer that popped up next to the driveway a few years ago. It probably will have to come down soon, as a poplar in that particular place is not ideal but I will enjoy it while it lasts.

Anyhow, its lovely yellow leaves came down in this weekend's storm...all but the one on the very top. Yep that is the only leaf on the tree. Some days I have a lot of fellow feeling for the thing. Wonder if it will still be there this morning when the sun comes up.

That leaf picture reminded me of something. A guy I know from town runs around collecting every walnut he can find. Once he gets a truckload, he sells them to a nut company. Hes truck was parked under a walnut tree yesterday. I looked around, and there was a lone walnut in the top of the tree. Maybe he is waiting for it to fall!

FC, thanks, just looking down the driveway, which I guess I do a lot. I do enjoy that little poplar tree

Linda, thanks, I have to go see if it is still there....nope, it has joined the rest of the mulch

Ah my poet friend.

A simple leaf, a world of meaning.

Cathy, thank you...it amazed me hanging on the way it did. That poor little tree is a delight to me in all its seasons, serving as a stage for indigo bunting concerts, changing colors several times a year, smelling in a Heavenly way of the first day of school when I was small (poplars lined the school driveway) and shaking its greeny-gold leaves with a sprightly rattle in summer. It is going to have to be cut down pretty soon as it is right up against the curve of the drive and will soon serve up a hazard to the trucks, but for now I love it.
