Horses of Northview

Or should I say, one big horse and one small pony gelding who thinks he is a destrier.

Meet Becky's pony, Jack, and Liz's grand old man, Tyler.

Jack is a pistol, big horse in a little package. When he trots out he looks like an old fashioned war horse...all he needs is half a dozen hands or so in additional height and a guy dressed in a tin can. Maybe a few flags and pennants and a cheering crowd too. (You can see that in his head he is hearing that crowd even now.)

Tyler is an elderly quarter horse that Liz is providing with a cushy retirement. Alas, for some reason he doesn't like me much and pins his ears and hides in the corner whenever I go in the barn. He has only lived here a few weeks and I am hoping that in time he will warm up to me.

He is in his upper twenties and it is getting hard to keep the weight on him. Despite that he is as sound as a two-year-old. When he trots it is like water flowing over smooth ground, big, scopey and springy. I can't imagine what it must be like to ride his gaits, but I'll bet it would be sweet.

So there you have them...the current crop of horses at Northview.

Ponies are usually such rascals. Your old fellow will certainly warm up. He probably wonders how he got there.

Jack makes me think of black mini poodle Angus, with that thinking he's big thing. His mane is a little bit similar too...
Good for Liz for taking care of ol' Tyler. That's a nice thing to do. I hope Tyler lives a good long time.

You come visit and I will pit you on one with a big trot, who will like you! :)

If he is having trouble keeping weight on, get a good equine dentist to check his teeth. They need floated.

Lisa, they are. I love ponies though; they are so much fun. Used to show driving ponies and had a fantastic time with them.

June, he does look a bit poodle-ish doesn't he!

Dani, cleaner and smarter too .lol

JB, I would like that! As long as he or she is quiet that is. Your grandkids are much braver than I am. I am a complete wienie when it comes to riding. Got spoiled riding the same horse for almost thirty years. He took care of me and I got used to it. Liz did have Tyler's teeth checked just a little while ago. He has that old horse, not much tooth left at all thing going on. Sadly...

Linda, thanks! I have been wanting to get some pics of him trotting. Still don't have quite what I want but we will get it.

Linda, yowsa! I am too chicken. Although Liz's bf rides him bareback with just a halter. Just call me coward.

Awwww . . . . I love these pictures.

Something about that shot of Tyler . . .

almost haunting.

He'll hopefully warm up to you TC - so you can give him some TLC :-)

Cathy, I really wish he would. Never had a horse here that didn't think I was the cat's meow. After all I am right handy with the feed and treats. He can't be out in his yard when Liz isn't here, because I would never be able to catch him. Jack on the other hand.....
