Sunday Stills....Cats

This should have been easy, but the cats, being cats, refused to pose or look cute, or brave, or daring, or in any way interesting. That's how it is with cats... as cooperative as cows and just as independent.

Simon, second in command, but always first at the screen door.
Elvis, head cat. He polices dogs like he owns them....wait, maybe he does
And Chain Saw, lord of the barnyard and doesn't he just know it!

Chain is the man, make no mistake

Well, the thing about cats is that they don't have to pose or do anything dramatic to look interesting. All they have to do is fix you with a riveting gaze from their amazing eyes, and you can't help but wonder what on earth (or elsewhere) they've been up to.

Cats have taken over the internet. No wonder they are uncooperative.

A puuurfect collection of cats! Of course Chainsaw owns the barnyard. Cats rule, you know. (But don't tell the dogs.)

Eva,That is for sure!

dibear, thanks, in sad irony two of our other cats did not show up for breakfast this morning. I still haven't seen one, but something injured the other one and I think we will have to put her down. Poor things.

Ed lol, thanks, he had a half a dozen names before Chain Saw, but that one stuck.

WW this is true. Even asleep.....

Jan, tis true

Far Side, it fits him so well. He had other names before Chain, but when that one came his way it fit and stuck. he has had so many things happen to him and he just shrugs them off.

Dancing Donkey, they are pretty stubborn.

Shirley, thanks, lol, he is best buds with my border collie and whenever they are both outdoors you can usually find them together.

Funny independent cats they are, all with different personalities.

I too was having trouble finding my cat doing something of interest, just needed a little playful encouragement.

"cooperative as cows..." That's so funny and true. Cats kind of do their own thing and live with humans for the convenience. Unlike cows, I think they know what they're doing. They are smart and independent. You have to love them.

Aurora, lol, usually Chain is up to something interesting, but this week he wasn't in the mood.

Farmlady, ironically something got one of our five barn cats yesterday. She let me see her, all hurt and sad, and then vanished before I could do anything. Another was missing and dog person that I am I felt terrible. however, at least Athena showed up at the food bowl this morning. She is a shy little girl and didn't want to fight with Chain Saw and Simon. I was so glad to see her I took her food out in the yard for her. Sinopa was not a nice cat, but I feel awful for her. We have a fisher...he has taken cats before.

OK. I just read your comment to Farm Lady.

Life is just so danged tough sometimes.

That's why we search for the comfort and delight in the beauty of the natural world. It sustains and lifts us above the nitty gritty of daily life.

And love. How would we move forward without it?

One of my favorite lines from The Desiderata:

" . . love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass."

Cathy, that is so lovely! Thanks for sharing it! Alas the boss found Sinopa dead in the heifer yard yesterday. I am more concerned than I sometimes might be, because when she stopped in to say goodbye, she was covered with dry dirt ground right into her fur. Now her son, our big yellow Tom, Justin Bieber, is also covered with the same dirt, although he is uninjured.I can't imagine what happened to them. They hung together a lot.....she was far from my favorite cat as she never ate anything she killed and brought them all to me and left them, but I find that I miss her.

Yep, that's cats for ya ;-). Love the name Chainsaw :-D.

Tcsl, he earned the name, believe me. Cats are like that here. We try names on them until we find one that really fits. It was that way with Chain, and ditto with his brother, Justin Bieber. They are as different as day and night...Justin was named Sunshine and names of that sort until his current name fit and stuck
