Weird

Turn up your sound to hear thousands of geese cackling all at once. This video was taken while I was standing on my porch btw

Weather. It was miserably cold at the beginning of the weekend but by last night it was so warm we were shedding layers in the barn like flannel confetti. The fans, which are on thermostats were sure running. Kept the cows in anyhow. No need for them to be out in the rain and it was sure sluicing down.

The amazing goose invasion seems to have departed, leaving behind only a few down feathers that floated to earth as they passed. I took a couple more videos...nothing sharp or clear, but just enough to give you an idea of how many there were and how much noise they make. There sure were a lot of them.

Other than that, we are just slogging along, literally right now, what with the mud generated by all that rain. I'll let you know if anything interesting happens......

I had to look up snow geese to see their winter range .

Oh my . . . wish I could lift away with them :)

And this warmth! I was stringing Christmas lights in my house this AM and was shedding like a molting crab.

Something "interesting" is always happening at Northview. Have you ever had a dull day?

Wow - that is a sight - and a noise! We get big flocks of Canada geese on the corn fields around here (they winter over), and they make quite a racket when they lift off or land - but it's usually only a couple hundred at a time - that looked like several hundred!

Daphne Du Maurier's short story "The Birds" was mentioned. The opening line of that story is, "On December third, the wind changed overnight..."

That is soooo cool!

I used to think that the geese were going somewhere, like South for the winter. At our place, they just fly around showing off, sometimes going North, sometimes South.
I think they fly and honk just because they can.

Don't they know they're supposed to go SOUTH?

Cathy they are very sporadic here. Some years we see none, other years thousands. Missing that warmth today though. it felt like March while it lasted.

Dani, that is kind of what we said. lol

Linda, every now and then we get a flock like that. Once we had an even bigger one.

Jan, well....now that you mention it. lol

SSF, it was sure a big flock...hard to tell how many. I heard a few going over last night in the dark, which was quite cool. Not a thing to see, just that quiet honking overhead.

NW, thank you! Now I am going to have to find that and read it. Bet it's online somewhere.

Keith, I think maybe they lost the instruction manual or something. These did eventually take off to the south, but I am hearing about several flocks around the region that are still here and I heard some last night. Sure would be nice if they hung around until the Christmas bird count and then visited our territory. lol
