Pat Leimbach Passes

Sad news indeed. This wise and eloquent lady was a great inspiration to me and no doubt to thousands of others as well. It seemed as if she could find the humor in almost any situation from lining out rows of grain at planting to fading denim on a fence post.

She was kind enough to correspond with me years ago when the kids were small and I was just getting started at writing. Her words of encouragement lingered long in my mind when I took over the Farm Side and wrote a weekly column myself.

If you haven't read her books, you are in for a treat, if you track them down.

Thanks, Robert, I never actually met Pat but I felt like I knew her from her books and letters

I read that piece about her. When life settles down I'd love to read one of her books.

If you could only read one . . which would you read?

Cathy, I would start with the first one, A Thread of Blue Denim. My favorite essay, one which often comes to mind, is the one in this book about faded denim and how it gets that way. Although I only knew Pat through her books and a few letters, she is another one I KNOW I would have liked. What a wonderful mind she had! Let me know if you find and read one. if you can't find them I would be glad to loan mine if you pass this way in the next while....

OK. The title, alone . . is beautiful.

I'm going to search the internet. Surely I can find a copy.

On the other hand . .

. . I like the thought of reading your copy :)

I'll let you know how my search progresses.

PS.

It's on its way. Unbelievable. The miracle of the internet . . . in so many ways.
