Windy

There was no sleeping through it this morning. Maybe around 4 AM gusts started hitting the house that made the timbers crack. Not creak. Crack.

And the glass in the windows and the plastic over them clattered and fluttered as if possessed.

In case I haven't mentioned it before....I hate the wind...guess I would make a lousy sailor.

Meanwhile, you might want to check to see if your state is one of those death spiral states mentioned in this Forbes article. Naturally NY is high on that list. High taxes, poor business climate, poor regular climate, ridiculous regulation, NYC, and now, the most draconian gun control legislation since Hitler. Yeah, NY is in a death spiral all right.

And note the takers vs. makers argument. The boss's family has been saying this since I met them nearly thirty years ago. Interesting that the concept has finally been noticed in other circles.

Too bad, because it is a pretty state, with impressive natural resources, an amazing amount of wild land, farm land, and lots of nice little towns. If NY were entirely made up of the Adirondacks and the upstate farm lands, the Great Lakes, the Finger Lakes and all that other good stuff, it would be paradise. Except that it is run by downstate and Albany...and summer is about six months too short.

Well, enough ranting. Time to see what the wind has done.

I feel your rant. California is also ruled by two urban areas totally removed from any realities.

The weather, however, is usually delightful...

The two of us in this house, alone, when the wind blows.

Something new in the last couple years. Upstairs there's a low Jacob Marley moan when the wind picks up. And branches scrap the house where we need to prune.

Yeah. I love the wind ;)

Oh. And we live in Ohio . . .

I'm a sailor, my Dad was a sailor - and I have a deep respect bordering on fear for wind - it can be harnessed for sailing, for turbines, even for laundry, but it can cause enormous damage and is so unpredictable. Like fire...

Sadly, I feel our dear country is also in a death spiral.
The Constitution is considered to be out-dated (see CBS Sunday morning). Taxes are raised in order to "be fair". The courts make mockery of our laws. I hate to be the one to break this to you, but if your family created a successful milk farm, "you didn't build it." Not sure who did (I could have sworn that it was you out there in the dark cold milking the cows.

Yes, we are in a death spiral, and picking up speed...

jan, I prolly wouldn't mind the weather half as much if I didn't have to work in it every day...and if we didn't heat with wood. lol

Sailor, yes! You are exactly right. I've been reading the Kenneth Roberts books about sailing...The Lively Lady and Captain Caution. They bring it all alive for me.

Keith, I feel the same way. When our kids were small an important and very well-informed friend pointed out to us the direction in which our nation was headed. She showed us how the education system was being used to scrub history and rewrite it and to brainwash youth out of believing in America. At the time we were concerned, but not quite believing. Today we believe.
