Fog

Yep, some mixture of temperature and moisture has cloaked the hills and fields in thick, pale fog overnight. No sunrise today.

Yesterday the girls saw a whole flock of hummingbirds stabbing at the bee balm. Odd that I only seem to have the one male coming to the feeder. I knew there were more around early in the spring, but maybe he is driving them off. He virtually lives on the porch and even sleeps on a string of baling twine from which depends a hanging basket.

Been trying for years to figure out why the gold finches come there late in the summer. Nothing on the porch to interest them....but they love to hang from one of the plant hooks and sing and fuss.

I wonder...do they maybe come to visit the Christmas ornament that hangs year round from one of the Norfolk Island Pines? It is a fairly accurate imitation of a male gold finch.

Hmm.....

Liz and I hit a local fruit and vegetable market yesterday. Not much that wasn't picked over and wilted, but some blueberries, a tomato and a few peaches called my name. I am watching the zucchettas in the garden like a hawk hovering over a tasty rabbit. They are not going to be out there very long, once they get big enough to pick.

Maybe today....

We interrupt this blog post because the cows are out. Yeah, someone whose name won't be mentioned failed to open the barnyard gate after opening the pasture gate. Thus they took the path of least resistance and came to the lawn. The other lawn. The zucchetta patch where they stomped a portion of the plants. Didn't that just make my day now.....

Morning fog may be pretty to look at, but it plays hob with trying to get anything done.

Rev. Paul, it wasn't a very pretty one either, just kind of dull and creepy.

Oh, goodness! It never fails...when you want to have something grow then something else gladly destroys it.
