Fail

It was supposed to get to twenty plus yesterday.

Didn't.

Below zero again last night, with a nice, bright, crisp, cold as heck morning again today. I dread to hear the barn report on this my morning off....at least in theory and at least so far.

Last night just heaped disaster upon disaster. The whole family was here, which was nice, in laws, out laws, future daughter-in-law, lots of lovable folks eager to help.

And a darned good thing.

First I went out to the milkhouse to turn the compressor on to cool the milk. Tanker picked up yesterday. I don't turn it on until there is some milk in there so it doesn't freeze the milk.

There was this awful gurgling sound and the receiving jar was full of wildly sloshing milk. Transfer pump had stb. Called men, who spelunked around and found some fuses blown. Boss got a heck of a shock, but they got it fixed.

Then one of the new heifers got down in her stall and had to be helped out from under the divider and a pallet installed to keep her where she belongs. Alan got pinned by another heifer during the installation.

And that was how it was all night. Couldn't wait to get to the house, but eventually we did, and had a nice evening watching a movie together.

Freezing rain next on the agenda, or so they say. Stay warm.

We are thawing water feeds to the tub in our utility room.
The high will only be minus 3 Tuesday.
Hang in there . . spring is just around the corner.
I wish .

P.S.
May I add that we could use a little global warming.

Cathy, oh, dear, that is too cold! I think we are in for a long siege before we see spring...alas....but the days are getting longer!
And yes, I could use a little bit of that and I think there are a good many who could. Stay warm, kind friend!

Electric shock is horrid and smashed by a heifer just as bad. I hope they are both okay today!

Linda, they are both fine, just momentary misery. The shock was pretty scary though.
