Fishnets and Hookers

After a couple of years hiatus, the boss is back selling at the Sprout Brook Auction. If you see him, don't be afraid to raise your hand and take home some of this wonderful merchandise.

Hope the weather stays as nice as it is.

*Btw, the fishnets and hookers thing came from an occasion several years ago when he got all excited selling some fishing tackle. No one has let him live it down since...

Be careful....we got caught in this traffic jam on our way over there the other day

While the Cat's Away the Mice Will

Mirror, mirror
on the wall

Keep a close eye on everything, and lock the gate, and listen hard for the dog to bark if anyone messes around the barn or tool shed.

Today is the Sprout Brook Auction. Go! Have fun! Say hi to the boss and most of the rest of the family, who will be there. The boss is auctioneering and everyone else is just watching the bargains and schmoozing with friends.

Except Becky and me. We are here, holding down the fort, keeping safe the cows and listening for that dog. I don't mind a bit except for the repelling boarders part. Chores are done, cows fed, bedded and milked, barn clean, peacocks fed; time for breakfast. It is for the moment peaceful and calm and we can hope it stays that way.

****Oh, wait, I do have a dutiful destination in today's peregrinations. Gotta go out and take photos of rust for Sunday Stills. Shouldn't be too terribly hard around this place. No lack of material.

The Auctioneer

The boss got a call the other day asking him to help with auctioneer duties over at the Sprout Brook machinery auction. They must have figured he would be willing because when he went over yesterday they had a company shirt with his name on it all ready for him. Here he is in front of his tractor display case in all his finery. (Note the nifty hair cut provided by yours truly. I HATE cutting hair but I do it when I gotta.)

Kindness

Yesterday the guys went to the regional junk..... er....I mean used farm machinery...auction. Before they left the boss put a draw pin in the back of the truck and tossed some hay on it so it wasn't obvious.

Way too trusting. When they went to hook up the small set of field drags they bought, the draw pin was gone. What kindness! Someone obviously forgot to bring one so they helped themselves. (At least they left the hookup for the horse trailer, which was also there under the hay.)

They were in quite a fix, many, many miles from home and too late in the day to go buy another pin somewhere. However, a complete stranger who was there working on loading machinery loaned them his so they could bring the drags home.

Of course now they have to go back up today to return the pin.
But what kindness, to loan something to someone they didn't know, whom they had no way to know they would ever see again.

However, there are rumblings that they want me to ride along when they take it back. It is cloudy and rainy and I get enough road travel on the daily college trip. It is cold. It is not a very interesting trip. Hmmm....how am I going to get out of this? My Sunday chair is calling, chores are done and I have a real good book. What to do, what to do...
