Life on a family farm in the wilds of Upstate New York

Uh oh ... train her to herd cows so she can earn her keep?
Hmmm ... is she into self-sacrifice? Thanksgiving's coming!
Kinda sounds like you are gonna be buying turkey chow for a long time....
NO akagaga!!!! Is Bee's new PET turkey!!!!
Oh, golly, breezey, I didn't know!!!
In my own defense, you have to understand my frame of reference. I distinctly recall being invited to lunch at a farm out Sprakers way a few years ago. Just as we were about to dig in to some incredibly aromatic chicken noodle soup, the farm-wife-cook pronounced, "Well, enjoy. This is the last of Harold."
yum,yum...sounds good to me!
LOLz it's okay. My dad and brother torment me by threatening Satan, Chickpea and now most definitely they'll torment me with Lucy's fate. Mom named her, I had NOTHING to do with it!
Well, I think Lucy is a fine name. Perfect, in fact, when you look at all that red "hair" she has. :)
Yep Mom wanted to name her after I Love Lucy. I guess it works..
Along FC's philosophy, I suggest training her to shovel snow and build a fire in the stove.
Finish her off on corn or sweet feed this coming week, slaughter her come Tuesday, brine her (or not) on Wednesday, stuff and eat her on Thursday -- sounds like a plan to me.
FC, there you go! I hadn't thought of that
Akagaga, she is perching right over the chain saws on the old harness rack. She had better remember her potty training or she just may be in trouble
Jeffro, I am very much afraid you will be right. Don't know what it is with certain people around here and poultry
Hey Beck, best take REAL good care of her....real good....lol
AKagaga, don't worry about it...Sometimes I wonder what gets into the crazy people around here. There is talk of a turkey coop, a boyfriend...all sorts of bizarre stuff. I am wondering if an official pardon is in order. We do, after all, live in a white house. lol
anon, that is quite possible
BEck, get used to it...all those Montgomery genes on one side...must torment.....must torment
Akagaga, that was my reasoning. If we get a tom, we will of course, name him Ricky
STeve, I like that plan too....especially the stove part
Wil, sadly, I think everyone who knows how is too lazy to turn her into turkey dinner. Although we may sound like a bunch of sentimental slobs, we are really just a bunch of lazy slobs. lol I couldn't believe it when the driver actually brought her. He has been threatening for years.....
Fred Thats dinner for thursday in two weeks .I'll take care of the messy part if you need me too!! LOL
Saron hase pet turkeys you can pet them . Pretty neat!!
Love ya
Matt
She reminds me of a pet turkey we used to have... Sniffle... she was the best bird. She would jump up in the swing and sit and swing with you, eat all the worm while shucking the sweet corn, she even had an affair with a wild turkey... She and our male never did hit it off... He was definitely the hen pecked "husband". :)
Everyone knew her... The UPS man brought her home once and the neighbors twice. It was rather comical. She also for the most part liked everyone... except this one guy. He was the turkey barn inspector for our area... He was sort of a friend of the family and would stop in. She would walk right up to him and start pecking at his shoes... by the the time he would leave both shoes would be untied... :) this was the ONLY person she would do this too...
I miss Claudette... I just had to share.
sara, what a sweet story! Thanks!
