Under the World Trade Center

***Photo by Alan with cell phone

The boy is working four stories down, under....

It's okay when he's with the crew, but sometimes they go topside to get coffee and he stays alone with his cooler and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (the broken down little red truck sure cramped his style...at least the jelly is Mom's strawberry).

Then it is different. He keeps talking about it.

A glimpse of movement at the edge of his vision.

Nobody there.

Shadows that shouldn't be there, gone when he turns to look.

A prickly feeling.....

I suppose there is no reason to be surprised at this. The other men sense it too and talk about it.

He got lost down there. Took him a while to logic his way out.

We truly need to remember......

I would find it so hard to work there at first. :(

I remember similar feeling walking over the battlefield at Gettysburg years ago.

That must be an incredible feeling to be down there alone. But it is really cool that he's part of the "rising from the ashes" of that day.

Wow.
I think Alan's brave to stay down there alone. I don't doubt that there's *stuff* going on around him there.
*shiver*

Powerful. Poignant. Has to make your readers teary for more than one reason.

Alan's photo is awesome.

So is he.

Dani, on one hand I am glad he has work. On the other hand I wish he was in NJ

SC Momma, I hear you. It was kind of neat on Friday...I didn't know it at the time, but while he was underground working on fixing, those Petersen farm brothers who made that viral farm video were up on top touring. Kind of cool in an ironic sort of way

June, I had no trouble understanding just what he was talking about. None at all. I saw those shadows and shades in the milk house for years after my f-i-l passed and so did the boss. still do every now and then'

Cathy, thanks
