When were these pictures taken. Is it the Fonda fair or do you go to other fairs in the area? We havn't been to the fair in years but were planning on going to the Fonda fair this year and will you be at it. Love the story about you and your daughter and the steer. My gosh, life is never dull on a dairy farm. My biggest battle in my yard is chasing chippy off my patio. He can live under the shed, but stay away from the house and my windows where I have seen him looking into. Your morning picutes are nice, hopefully the hot weather is gone.
My husband grew up on dairy farm in Clinton County with registered Holsteins...these pictures are deja vu for him, for sure. He loved Clinton, Franklin, Essex Co. fairs for the social stuff, not staying up all night keeping the girls show ready! He's an architect with good memories of growing up as a farm kid, may design a barn but doesn't miss the 24 hour a day routine of animal husbandry. Caroline in South Dakota
My dear friend, Numberwise, what can I say about that post, but uh...... I was really, really, ticked off and needed to get it off my chest, but then I decided that it was kind of on the whiny side and deleted it. It really isn't a whole bucket of fun to show cows any more. Too many rules and regulations, which are nonsense to the no-nonsense mind of the country person, but absolutely necessary for the helpless outlook of a lot of other people. The ones who are too dumb or lazy to keep their kids out of the water tubs so you have to put them where they can't get to them, who trip over hoses, slap bulls in the face to see what they will do etc.
Hi Karen, Those were taken yesterday and the day before at the Altamont Fair, where the kids are showing cows this week. We don't go to Fonda because the girls are back in college by then. Thanks for visiting and for your kind words. We have an errant chipmunk too and he is giving me fits. You would think that the barn cats would have his number but I guess he has theirs.
Caroline, Ask him if he remembers what fun it is to "bag" before the show. That is what is happening with us tonight and the kids are as we speak having a go round with the management over whether they can use the milking parlor late tonight. We never made it to any of those fairs, but we used to go to all within driving distance for folks who have to milk twice a day. They can be a lot of fun. Thanks for visiting.
I smiled when I saw these photos -- I can almost hear the barn sounds. But I came back to comment on your post, and it's gone!
