  1. I love my cow. I think she really enjoyed being out on the lawn, soakin' up some rays, and munchin' down on the grass.

  2. She sure looked happy except when we made her put her head up for formal photos.

  3. Awwwww. What a wonderful and lucky cow. That's my idea of a nice day: sunshine, green grass and a nice young woman combing my hair. (Right? It's 'hair' on a cow - not 'fur'?)

What a wonderful name - 'Mandolin Rain' - where did that come from?

  4. Hi Cathy, it was a truly gorgeous day so Liz brought her show cow, Mandy, over to eat on the lawn. She was very happy about that.
You are correct, it is hair....and the name came from the Bruce Hornsby song of the same name.

I can't for the life of me remember why we named her that, as her mother's name was Bingo

  5. We, or rather I, named her that because we were talking about how since she was such a big strappy heifer she was gonna need a really good, stand out name for the shows. And then the next day we went to Price Chopper, and Mandolin Rain was playing through the store. You said lets name her Mandolin Rain. So I did. And boy what a trend THAT started...

  6. Lovely picture and there's never been a prettier name for a cow.
Lucky she wasn't called Price Chopper I guess.

So when does a calf recieve "Bama Breeze" as a moniker?

    Hmmmm?

And finally, I have to ask Liz, what does Paintsmh mean? I've resisted asking forever.
    Paints mobile homes ...?
    Paints my horse ...?

    I give.

  8. Hey FC. You have probably gotten the closest of anyone. Its Paints Medicine Hat, because of my gelding's color pattern.

  9. PMH Ah, yes, I had forgotten.

FC, Bama Breeze! We have a lot of B cows, although I don't think I have any...mostly Alan. Have to talk him into it. Been a Buffet fan since before Margaritaville...seen him twice on the rare occasions when he plays up here in the cold northeast.
As for spelling...not an exact science...I wouldn't even have noticed. lol I wouldn't even have notice. A medicine hat BTW has colored ears usually and a shield shaped marking on the chest. Disguised Image, AKA DG, fits the bill.

  12. It is nice to know that there are people out there who really appreciate their animals.
I live in the Allgäu in Germany which is of course mainly dairy farming and to a lot of farmers the animals are just livestock. There are of course exceptions but...

  13. Hi Jeanine, thanks for visiting. I guess it is that way on some farms, but I think most folks may care more than they show. Here, we have kept on through some really bad milk prices mostly because the kids love the cows....and we are not sure just what else we would do if we quit.
