Yesterday the wind was rippling the grass in the old horse pasture like hair on shaggy dog's back. It whirled and swirled and changed colors until it was almost iridescent as the grass showed its pale green stem sides and then its purplish seed heads. I spent a few minutes on my sitting porch (a very bare and bereft sitting porch as the plants are still all indoors due to threat of frost) and watched the wind tease and tug at it. It was a never ending spectacle punctuated by the zig zagging of the mockingbird and a few passing starlings and I liked it. So I took some pictures and you can kinda sorta see what I mean.
Alan says we did have frost in spots night before last so I am glad the plants were tucked into the living room or covered with towels and doggie blankets (I even put my favorite polar fleece work jacket around Grandma Peggy's old snake plant and then put that on top of the scion of Grandpa Lachmayer's old snake plant. I should have brought them both in but it was getting dark and I was getting about done with what I could do in a day. Anyhow they are both fine as is the ancient burros tail, which spends every summer in the honey locust, which I completely and entirely forgot (smart, real smart).
***Update, Alan was right about the frost. One of the water cannas on the garden pond took a hit. Just the edges of the leaves were burned brown, but it sure must have been cold to freeze it inches above the water. Wow!

Sorry for your cold temps. Its been cool here but no chance of freezing. I love the picture. Just yesterday I was showing my girls the big hay field we pass on the way home-it looked like someone had messed its hair (grass) up.
Geeze, it's June already. Frost? Do you know you're supposed to have four seasons there? Or are they Cold, Freezing, Arctic and Thaw? Sorry that the plants can't get out and stretch their fronds and bask yet. Stay warm!
Gorgeous green grass.
Frost now?
Actually sounds good on this warm day.
Tipper, after the frost did its thing it warmed right up....
Steve, Last two years we have had terribly later frosts. Makes it hard to get the garden in. I went up to water the squash and couldn't figure out what was wrong with it until I realized it was frost damage. I think it will live though....and then this morning it was warm enough to mow the lawn wearing shorts.
FC, it was pretty shiverish....we keep putting the plants out and dragging them back in. Despite temps well into the seventies today I kept 'em in. I don't want the gang to get mad at me for all the extra work. lol
IM DONE IM DONE IM DONE!!!!
First of all, wonderful descriptive words as always... We're getting whacky weather up here in Toronto... cold mornings, VERY hot afternoons, temperate evenings, back to icey mornings... it's been very odd...
Ahhhh.... Liz is done!!!
Paints, you are, you are, you are....Yay!!!
Matthew, once again, Happy Birthday!
NW, she is indeed, although it has really settled into my mind yet. I think along about Monday I may get used to it. Meanwhile, she is sleeping in for the second time in three months and I get my regular morning off tomorrow..ditto. I am ecstatic over that! Hope all is well with you..we haven't talked in a while, but I think of you often.
Frost?! Oh my goodness! It is so humid here, I would love a little frost!
Tim, getting sticky here now too, and the cool feels pretty good, but it sure messed up the garden. I just couldn't cover it all. don't think anything actually died though.
Your garden is going to be amazing! Can;t wait to watch it progress.
