Google Chrome

I tried out the new Google Chrome broswer today. It didn't take me long to find things that don't work as well as I would like them to. One is setting the font for blog posts. I like the way Ariel and Ariel Narrow look and I type almost everything in one or the other of those fonts.
Chrome is not happy with that and keeps changing the font setting here to "Font". If I wanted font I would leave it in font.
Dag Nab It.

I can highlight and change things to Ariel and after a while it will stay there, but seems to me there is still some work to be done. . .

Now that I have uploaded a couple of photos I discover that I can't cut and paste to move them around in the post. Irritating. After I finish writing this I will edit in Firefox.

Other things that bug me include the tab bar being above the bookmarks bar. I keep clicking the wrong thing.
And where oh, where is the edit menu so I can edit things?
Are there any other skins?
I like skins.
I like colors like green.
Blue is boring....just ask Microsoft. They like blue.

I have four tool bars running in Firefox all the time and use them all. Can't seem to find that feature in Chrome if it exist (btw I am editing in Firefox now).

So far I infinitely prefer the versatility and tinkerability of Firefox. It is easy to customize it so it works and looks just like I want it to...not to mention how easy it is to have spell check running all the time. (My spelling needs the help.)

Time will tell how Chrome works out. I will certainly play with it some more. However, so far it seems too weird for my admittedly habit-bound tastes. We will see....

  1. There was a time not too long ago when I'd have been one of the first to try Chrome. Now, not so much. Glad to see your review - sounds like it still needs some serious work to replace my beloved Firefox.

  2. I'm a through and through Firefox fan, set in my ways. I wasn't even tempted when I heard about it on the radio this morning.

  3. I'm still happy with IE so I won't be switching either even though I am a fan of most things Google

Have you noticed how Blogger is getting better and better with more cool features?
And now they've improved Picasa too.
I used to feel like the poor stepchild using Blogger, but it has become a pretty nifty bit of software.

  4. I kinda agree with the above three wise people. Not that I have jumped into blogdom but insomuch as trying something new that's free that you didn't ask for is just asking for a migraine. Good luck playing and experimenting.
Hey, I've been out for several days... did you get ribbons for your froggy pics at the fair???

  5. Jeffro, I had to check it out. I read the comic book that was supposedly leaked...or as much of it as I could even figure out...and I had to test it. Not impressed.

Linda, me too. It took me a while to get used to Firefox having used Netscape since I got in the Internet. Now I have my browser so thoroughly customized it practically makes my coffee.

FC, I never could use IE. It always seemed clumsy to me. Lots of folks do though
And yes, I am glad I stuck with Blogger through all of the growing pains. I am contemplating migrating this to the new template style. My other two use it and they look good. I have so much customization here that I would have to move though...I'm afraid I had better wait until full winter when I have more time to putter with it.

Steve, it is time for you to make that jump though....maybe??? I will continue to fool around with Chrome just because I am the kind of person who just HAS to know....however, I suspect Firefox will keep my business.

Both my 8X 10 and set of four small froggie pics got red ribbons. On paper it isn't much of an accomplishment but I was grinning like a cat with a cage full of canaries. There were dozens of lovely entries and I was genuinely astonished to win anything at all.

  6. When you consider how many people entered photos and when you look at how good yours are, you will know you deserved to win. Red is certainly praiseworthy and I am just as excited for you because I know you have an exceptional eye. Congratulations, Mare!!

  7. I'm still with IE...haven't tried Firefox yet, but we've been thinking about it.

When you do occasionally use IE do you ever try to cut and paste pictures in your blog? Because I can't, so I have to upload it through Blogger, but I would much rather use Tinypic.

I know what you mean about not being able to find anything, and stuff is in a differnt place. About every three weeks or so, microsoft installs updates on our computer when we shut if off for the night. I always hate it when I turn it on and something is a differnt color, this is moved, that's over here, some pages are screwwed up, that doesn't load right anymore. It usually takes a few days and they work the bugs out, but its always frustrating.

  8. Steve you are too kind
    You know that, don't you?

Aussie O, I feel the same way. No need to apologize. It is reasonably easy to cut and paste photos within the blog post in Firefox. I have never tried IE as I simply never liked it.
