I am so not ready for this

But someone else is. He has been scouting for weeks for just the right one. This year we put it in a corner of the living room so it doesn't obscure the light from the big windows. I can't stand the gloom... being a SAD sufferer in a big way.

Due to the presence of the cat, the "good" ornaments will have to stay in their boxes this year, so we will have to get creative. So far some chili peppers tied in bunches and a metal coyote have made the cut....kind of Southwestern, don't cha think?

  1. If you wanted authentic Southwestern, I could have sent you a tumbleweed to use as a tree!

I'm not ready yet, either, 3C. When we had young cats, we would wrap a rope around the top of the tree, and anchor it to two walls. This stopped it from falling over, but it didn't stop them from dragging the garlands from one end of the house to the other, or batting all the satin balls under the couch.

Actually, it's good to remember these things. I had been thinking about getting another cat!

  3. I'm ready, but my living room isn't!!

We had a pet grey squirrel when I was a kid and he loved the Christmas tree.
    Too much.

  4. We are going scouting today.....it's difficult for THIS family to find and agree on one particular tree :) I enjoy the tramp in the woods most of all.
I do not have a cat this year so no worries there although the dogs and their swinging tails usually manage to rearrange the decorations on the bottom branches.
    Tis' the season :)

  7. Big beauteous tree. Did that one cost extra with legs? Ours don't come that way. I think they sell them as extras. Good luck with decorating especially with the Pro Ornament Dislodger.

Ack... no! Not yet! I've got to (re)train my cat and train the puppy to not eat lights and ornaments.

Oh, heck, maybe we'll just go for the au naturel look this year.

  10. Jeffro, that would really give it that special touch wouldn't it! lol

akagaga, this tree is pretty secure but what with his running through the house with knives and all we are afraid to let him any where near the ornaments. lol

FC, I'll bet it will be though. The squirrel must have been something!

Deb, I just let him pick them. Once they are up and covered with stuff they all look good no matter how they may have started out. Year before last MIke tipped the tree right over, which made a horrific mess....we don't put it in high traffic areas any more.

Matt your house looks great though! You guys have sure done wonders with it...so homey. Love you too

Nita, thanks, it cracked me up when I saw him coming and I ran for the camera.

Matt, thanks for visiting, I stopped by and entered your contest...nice stuff

Steve, I didn't price out the legs, but I can tell you one thing for certain (I can tell by the grocery bill)....they are both hollow!

AMWD, I always dread it...just dread it. I stink at shopping...my worst subject in school....good luck with your critters. We are making homemade stuff like cranberry strings, because with a knife-wielding cat, we figure there is no hope for the grandma ornaments if we put them out.

FArm Chick, thanks so much for including Northview on your blog "tour". I will certainly visit you too. Stop by again some time!

I'm thinking maybe you could hang the cat as an ornament, and hang a bowl of tuna within his reach. Oh, and hang his favorite knife behind him! threecollie, I am having way too much fun with this! (all in good fun, no harm to cat of course!)

  12. i have two cats. the stupid one isn't too much of a problem - she's just a clutz. the other one though... i have a bunch of "glass" ornaments (actually shatter proof plastic) that i use as decoys near the bottom of the tree. they still get broken, but it takes longer. also, i wire the ornaments onto my fake tree. it takes forever, but they're much more secure. :-)

  13. Teri, Ha! That might work and he is such a decorative fellow, it would look nice too. He got another knife the other night and was running through the house with it again. I think he likes the uproar. lol

Ericka, good idea...we haven't had a house cat in so long I am kind of out of practice. So far we have just hung peppers and ears of corn and ribbons on it...slow going but nothing he can hurt.

  14. I know what you mean about being a SAD sufferer. I HAVE to have the curtains wide open during the day, or else I starve from lack of daylight. No one else in the family seems to care-- they'd go all day with the curtains closed and the electric light on. Ack! I MUST have sun (or at least, daylight).

  15. Mrs. M, it plumb wrecks my fall and winter! It is so much better for me living in this big house with lots of windows facing in every direction.
