Trisha Too asked in the comments what cow magnets do and why we put them in the cows' stomachs sometimes. Here is a link to an older post with an explanation:
Cow Magnets
And I am not a happy camper this morning, as regular readers may have already guessed. I fear that, when the much touted mysterious elixir of change is served up to America, it will come at the expense of hard-working independent people like my family and serve only the good of those who want prosperity to come at the hand of government. So I will go away and be grumpy for today and post something more cheerful when I get over it. At least the campaigning is over for a few hours, although we will certainly hear back slapping and self congratulations that will echo from coast to coast.
Not a happy family here - I have never felt more concerned about what lies ahead for my family, my state and my country as I am this morning.
ReplyDeleteDeb, we rural people are so vastly outnumbered by people with an entirely different perception of the world and we are becoming fewer every day. I suppose there is little hope for our point of view. I read the blogs of the women I know across the US and Canada and I am proud to be one of them.Country women are independent. Most of us, if we want something make it ourselves, or earn the money to buy it by hard work. Sadly the rest of the nation seems to have more of a herd mentality and they prefer that the government give them what they want. Well, they will get their way now and our way of life will suffer. Lyndon Johnson was the last president to have this kind of mandate in Congress. We all know what a great job he did.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I'm not alone in my uncheerful blog post. I'm sure my liberal readers are going to stick it to me today. I'm with you and Deb...here in Michigan we passed two proposals, one to relax the use of marijuana for critically ill patients and another to relax the restriction on embryonic stem cell research. I'm outraged to say the least. And after listening to Dr. Dobson yesterday talk about Obama's stand on partial birth abortion I'm very, very scared for our young people and the unborn!
ReplyDeleteI can't say it better than that. Hard work is in this country girl's blood. I am happy to give to those in need of my own free will, but it sure scares me when a president has the mind set that he'll just take it from me and give it to whomever he chooses.
ReplyDeleteSocialism doesn't work.
And a quote, ‘Those that ignore history are doomed to repeat it.’ I betcha most people don't know a lick about Lyndon Johnson.
Thanks for voicing your concern, it's good to know I'm not the only one with a stomachache.

As a New Yorker, the loss of the state senate worries me as much as the monopolization of power at the federal level.
ReplyDeleteYour comments about the rural/urban divide are so true. As the United States (and the world) continues to urbanize, I worry that urban domination of rural areas will only intensify.
It's horrible here, the media was camped in the "bad" part of town, and it was hard to tell the "celebration" from the usual gang bang type activities that usually go on. They didn't show the usual gunfire of course, that would send the wrong message. The worst, the downtown area was also taken over, with "celebrating" which looked to me like rioting. Win or lose, the end result was the same - Mayhem :(
ReplyDeleteDitto the others, this is going to be a long 4 years. My sister just retired from her house of representatives seat because of "pressures" to do so. Her seat was won by a Democrat, who will not serve the farmers, loggers and rural people who need a voice. Instead, we will have more taxes in an already heavily taxed area. Most of our land base in this area is either government owned, or a tax shelter for church groups. This person ran a campaign on raising taxes and she won easily. Who votes for raising taxes?
Three - sorry for the rant, but I knew you and your readers would understand...
Hi, 3C. I'm unhappy too. But... I know that God has a plan, and He is STILL the one in control. I do expect some good to come of this in the future months... not by political might and manipulation, but in answer to much prayer.
ReplyDeleteMore bad news, a snippet of info. about our former governor (Kitzhaber) possibly being appointed as Secretary of the Interior. If that happens expect a lockdown on all natural resources, period.
ReplyDeleteWe're even worried about it up here in Canada. Not a good thing that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a farm person although I live in a rural (red) area of a very blue state. But I certainly share your concern that ideas and people with the biggest budgets and most misleading campaigns win so often.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of voters are going to be surprised that the government won't be paying their mortgage, buying their gasoline and doing their grocery shopping. In fact the government will be making all these more expensive.
I really hope I'm wrong. But that is so rare. :-)
I am a sad camper as well, I keep feeling like all we can do is hold on tight to our values and keep our noses to the grindstone. Then I look back through my genealogy thats hanging on my wall in my office back to my ancestors that fought and died in the Revolutionary War and wonder is this what they had in mind for the future of their America. It has to be simpler than what it is made out to be, how do we get back? And your right there are so many strong Country Women in this country that are smart and have huge ideas that keep their families and farms going despite every obstical thrown in our paths but we are so spread out how could we all come together to be heard above all the corporate noise that runs Washington? I know, run for office, but here in NY I wouldnt have a chance.
ReplyDeleteUGH, I'm with you. I'm so sick of reading blogs that show empty bottles of champagne and the CHANGE logo friggin everywhere. Are they ALL crazy?
ReplyDelete*sigh*
It's not like I didn't see it coming. It would be a rare thing, indeed, for America to stick to the same political party for 3 elections in a row. Still, I hoped.
LOVED McCain's speech, by the way. It really brought tears to my eyes.
I too am sad and dishearten over what has happened to our country. My job is closely linked to the coal mines in our county, there are those of us who heard the latest comments on what the new 'rulers' feel about guns, coal, Bible reading.....
ReplyDeleteI am sad
I am worried
I am scared
Maybe tomorrow I won't feel that way...maybe tomorrow so way down the road.

I have a blog award for you at my site :)

Melissa, the kids had a hard time over at college today, as you might imagine, with all the celebrations. Kids ran screaming through the dorms last night waking up all the aggie kids who had to get up early in the morning....
ReplyDeleteJoce, it did my heart good to read all the comments here today. As long as there are strong women and men there is hope
Red Scot, been saying exactly that to my kids all day. We are gonna get a lot of stuff crammed down our throats now. It scares me real bad
Nita, the farmers, ranchers and loggers are the backbone of the country. When they are gone what does that leave us? A spineless nation is what
Susan, thank you for that thought. We need all the hope we can get!
Nita, we have been promised a more powerful EPA under this guy...yay...
Linda, I don't think we are going to see good things. The stock market sure wasn't happy
Jan, I am very afraid that you are right.
WW, we need folks like us to run for office, but we are all too busy growing food and raising great kids....darn it.
Amanda, I liked it too...I couldn't believe that even that brought complaints...
Linda, it seems as if in recent years worry about what the government will do next is a constant companion. Not a week goes by without a dangerous bill or new regulation looming on the horizon. California passed Prop 2 and now the activists are threatening the rest of the country. New York is an ag state, but we have an awful lot of non ag folks voting. I am very concerned.
And thanks so much for nominating me! That is really kind of you.
Your strength, and the strength shared in the comments makes me, too, proud to be a Country Woman. We are a strong group and farming has served up the worst for us to get through. We will continue to do so in all that challenges us.
ReplyDeleteI have been reading and nourishing myself with your writings and photos. I've been on a whirlwind for almost a month now; I apologize for not commenting lately.
Thank you so much for sharing your amazing life and stories in your blog through your writings and photographs. They touch me deeply, and are a constant that is a wonderful part of my life.
Thank you Teri, those are very kind words indeed and mean a lot to me. I took tremendous comfort from the comments shared on this post...it was good to know that so many people I have come to care about share my fear. And fear it is. I don't think farming is going to get to be a better way to make a living any time soon. Pretty discouraging. It helps to know others are facing the same challenges.
ReplyDeleteI understand how busy you are and hope all is well with the little ones. Take care!
