About the demise of the snow here.....are a bit premature....alas
My favorite rose quartz, which now adorns Mike's final resting place
And my former favorite Herkimer diamond specimen, which a certain someone broke with the lawn mower.
But we do have pretty rocks....er.....mineral specimens.
Well then. With all the talk of robins and such yesterday I thought for sure the fields would be clear. (BTW I heard one giving a very tentative song at noon yesterday as I watched skiens of geese overhead flying north. Spring is coming. Promise.)
ReplyDeleteKeep an eye/ear out for woodcock at twilight. After this weekend's rains they should start showing up on any open patch of ground.
Joated, ooh, I love woodcocks. We usually have one over by the horse pasture pond. Maybe I will hear him next week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a huge rose quarts! Rose quarts is my very favorite.
ReplyDeleteAnd I feel sorry for us, look at all your snow. UGH! Snow is nice in winter, but March should be spring, now lets see April is coming, and it is only....20 days away.

Liquid snow here all day today.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear that your snow is fading into the final moments of winter. Granted I don't envy you and the coming mud, but I know the thrill of NO more snow, ice, and nastiness.
ReplyDeleteOvernight you'll have that slight green haze that I was welcomed with this morning... oh the joys of 60 plus degree weather!
You do have pretty "rocks"! I saw cedar waxwings and heard some unfamiliar birdsong here yesterday....it gives me hope even though the ground is still white.
ReplyDeleteLinda, dad and I collected this one (larger than a football) and several other really nice ones on a mine-filled mountain near here. What I wouldn't give to be able to go back!
ReplyDeleteFC, we have had just a bit of that as well. Is the pond full yet?
Sara, we have mud for sure! Yesterday I gave up on sweeping the kitchen floor. Swept it four times in a couple of hours and the next time someone came in the mud was back. There are a few traces of green here and there though....
Linda, cool on the cedar waxwings. Haven't seen any here at the farm since last summer. Or heard any for that matter.
What a beautiful picture of snow, it's my first time being in a non-white-Christmas sort of place this year and it's surprising how much you can miss snow.
