Hurry on over to Compass Points to see the photos Joated took at Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge yesterday. He actually got a really good shot of a muskrat walking across water on top of a school of carp!

That is amazing!

Thanks for the link, Threecollie.
ReplyDeleteBTW, How's the calfing coming along? Seems to have been kinda quiet in the barn lately. Oh, and how many cows do you typically have calfing each year?
Linda, I was awed by that photo. I have been right at that spot when the carp were trying to run and it is an amazing sight indeed, but adding the muskrat ramps the incredible factor right up to real special.
ReplyDeleteJoated, you are welcome. Those photos plumb earned a link.
Calving is moving right along. Just had one this morning when I went to the barn...another totally unexpected red one, this time a bull. I had to come to the house for help as the heifer was feeling sorry for herself and wouldn't get up...she is fine now, thankfully. We have around fifty cows that theoretically should each calve each year (alas they don't always) and probably ten new heifers or so. There are several due in April.
That was neat!
ReplyDeleteI saw the pictures, they were great! Glad your heifer got up.
ReplyDeleteFC. I loved it! I was so tickled that Joated posted photos. I have been there when the carp were swarming like that but it was back before I lived with a camera attached...so long ago, Alan our fish guy doesn't even remember it. The muskrat was just icing on the fishy cake.
ReplyDeleteTMM, thanks, I was glad too. We have waited so long for her to get around to having the calf.
