Lemmie Loves Me

Lemmie before she heard my voice

Just in case you wondered whether cows know their folks or not....Liz's boyfriend took me over to the fair for a bit. When I got there Lem was just lying there resting. The second I spoke and she heard my voice she spun her head right around to see me. Then any time I spoke her name she quickly looked to see what I was doing.

As soon as she heard my voice...
there were people all around talking but she picked me right out

Chewing cud like it was her job.

Milk vein

Liz, Becky and the men generally feed her. All I do is milk her twice a day, put fly spray on ditto...and talk to her, because, despite her breaking my nose with her tail last year, she is one of my favorites. Nice to know she likes me too.

  1. That is awesome that Lemmie picked you out of the crowd. I also am an animal lover and farm animal lover. I know how intelligent they can be.

Wow! She broke your nose with her tail? Yes, they are very powerful.

  2. That is so sweet. She probably wants to know why you are both there.

  3. She's so sweet!

I'm a believer. I can call to Stubby and he looks for me. They know the people that love them.

This evening I went to feed. One of the bulls came at me before I got the gate open. Then I wouldn't go in the pasture. Stubby got between him and me and started fighting with him. I think he was being protective. I went back to the barn and got my whip. The bull backed off then and I was able to feed. Big turd!

  4. Ava, I suppose it is a small thing, but I was both surprised and delighted that she was so happy to see me. She is usually a very self-contained creature and doesn't seem to notice me at all, except that whole switching with the tail thing....lol

Jan, that could be too. lol. They love to go to the fair though because they truly live the life of riley, the best food, endless hours of attention, everything they could ask for and more. It is a fact that if we park an open trailer in the barn yard, even retired show cows that haven't worn a halter in five years will climb right on.

The Wife, thanks, I worry about you with those big bulls...even though I know that you folks know just how to handle them. I am so glad Stubby defended you. And I do believe that that is exactly what he intended. We once had a heifer wrap her neck around Alan and shove him down from the field to the barn. There was a marauding pack of coyotes right there in the dark and there is no doubt in my mind that she considered him to be a small, vulnerable herd member and took him where she thought he was safe. There is an amazing life to be lived among the animals...

  5. Awww . . . . and you don't hold a grudge :0)

That's pretty amazing that she knew your voice. Wow.

I had no idea a tail could do that much damage.

  6. She was probably happy to see a familiar face. I know they get to know us and their names at times. We had a holstein named Chloe and when the were waiting to come in to milk in the holding area we could call her name out and she would raise her head up and look at us like saying " Here I am, are you going to let me in and pet me now" We have quite a few that are so spoiled.

  7. Cathy, I was so tickled. And it was so obvious that she knew me that even Liz's boyfriend remarked on it...and not just knew me, I think she was glad to see me. I will be glad myself when she is back at home tomorrow night. I have missed her in my milking string.

TMM, that is so cool. They have such personalities, or at least some of them do. We were at a farm yesterday where they were all pets and the calves practically ate me alive. They wee cute as heck though. lol
