Alan was up chopping Tuesday when a hellacious storm hit. Trees were bending right over, rain was slashing and drumming and he could barely see to drive the tractor. When he came down he told us about a thing dangling down from the clouds that was circulating and undulating up and down. Over the past few years we have seen that two or three times so we didn't think too much of it until today....when we heard that an E-F1 tornado touched down just a little bit from here.
Wow! He must have been watching it forming. It went right over him.
Good thing Alan came out ok! I barely made it in the barn before it hit. We didn't have the wind quite like you did though.
ReplyDeleteLIsa, doesn't the weather service do a great job of predicting these things?!? All the forecast called for was scattered showers! They managed to get a downpour warning out about half an hour after it started. Meanwhile Alan was up in the field watching a huge circular thing rolling around under a cloud, obviously a baby tornado. We didn't think it touched down until the news last night! Dang...lotsa warming and all.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad both of you are safe! I'm very glad Alan made it in alright.
ReplyDeleteI learned something new, I sure didn't know there were tornados in your neck of the woods.
Whew!

Yikes!! The other day I was taking pictures of rotating funnel clouds to the south of us...I looked straight up and the same thing was happening right above me...I took a couple of pictures then got out of dodge and made it home before the storm hit here. At least nothing touched down.
ReplyDeleteLInda B, they are rare, but they do occur. You would think the mountains would break them up, but I guess not.
ReplyDeleteLinda P, can't wait to see those photos. Wow! I am really glad you got home all right. This storm didn't seem like that big a deal down here by the house, but I guess it was much more so up in the fields in back.
several years ago, we had several tornadoes touch down - one ripped the antenna off my neighbor's roof - and the weather service denied they were tornadoes. called them "strong cyclic winds." is that not tornado??
ReplyDeleteglad alan made it home ok!
Ericka, makes you wonder sometimes doesn't it? Same thing happens around here sometimes.
