From the same governor who likes to play meatout day comes the decision that it is too expensive for the state to subsidize the fair. (Despite the fact that it makes a profit). Thus ends a 160 year tradition, leaving Michigan one of the few states in the nation without a state fair.
Ag is Michigan's number two industry but I guess Granholm isn't a big fan.
HUH? What an excellent way to anger a bunch of voters.
ReplyDeleteThat is just a bunch of bull sh***t! Pardon the pun!

Gee, I wonder if the state of Michigan has any funds dedicated to things like supporting the arts?
ReplyDeleteCertainly they need to mandate a (basic) course in economics for the governor if, indeed, the fair makes a profit each year. Something that explains to him just how you can not save money by cutting something that, you know, makes money.
FC, yeah, I think they are just going to love her doing this.
ReplyDeleteLisa, it is and I do. I am astonished by what this woman gets up to. She makes NY look good, which is quite a feat.
Linda, I don't know, but she better get her act together before then I am thinking.
Joated, I am beginning to think she is simply anti-agriculture and pretty darned arrogant. I hope Michigan voters notice.
I grew up in metro Detroit. Attending The Michigan State Fair was a family tradition. I am deeply saddened that this tradition has ended for families in the region. I moved to the west side of Michigan years ago and have enjoyed attending many of the county fairs in this area. Although fairs in West Michigan have fine reputations, including Allegan, there's nothing like The Michigan State Fair on 8 Mile in Detroit. My earliest memory was seeing The Supremes perform. Actually I just heard them, because I was too small to see the group from my view, as I was just barely three feet tall.
ReplyDeleteAnon, what a wonderful memory to have even if vertical challenges prevented you from visual enjoyment. I love the fairs and it makes me so sad to see them waning the way they are. What a loss!
