Common redpoll
He let me walk right up to him
while he stuffed his beak with sunflower seeds
It is grey, muddy, soggy, gloomy, a bit on the nippy side, and I don't care one bit.
First turkey vulture-last week
First Killdeer-about ten minutes ago
Robins-everywhere
Grandma Peggy's daffodils up by the corner of the house-check
Eggs-hens are laying them
Warm enough to toss the roosters outside-yes (three roosters to four hens is a terrible ratio.
Yep, technically it is still winter, but March is so much closer to spring than February
Thank you, thank you, for giving us hope that spring will surely arrive.
ReplyDeleteWhat Woodswalker said. There are patches of bare ground appearing here, in places where the sun hits. Although we don't really have a "spring" season*, it is warming a bit.
ReplyDelete*We have "the snow is gone & the ground is bare/muddy/ugly" season - then all the greenery explodes into full leaf in 72 hours.
WOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe've actually got some early blooms in the garden and the robins were out in the rain this morning. Spring is definitely in the air!!
ReplyDeleteI LIKE THIS WEATHER!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYep, big fat red Robins here this morning, can't imagine what they are looking for on the wet asphalt -- oops, the ground is soaked, the worms come up to breath and move. FOOD!
ReplyDeleteI love your signs of Spring! I start looking for those before it's really here also. Like you say, once those things start happening it isn't long now!

Our birds are leaving us to go back up to the mountains for the summer. I don't feed them while they are here, but I do provide a yard full of fat insects for them to eat all winter.:-)
ReplyDeleteFirst swallowtail kite of the season!
ReplyDeleteThe choir is assembling bit by bit here - not up to full symphony yet, but the players are still showing up.
ReplyDeleteWW, as I sit here in the near dark a cardinal is cheering wildly from the trees behind the horse barn...
ReplyDeleteRev. Paul, we are lucky in that we usually get plenty of spring. Of course it is punctuated and accentuated by mud season, which is upon us, but....
Dani, yup
CTG, yay! no flowers here yet, but they are at least up
Mappy, I am ready for winter to be done. And I love you little brother!
Earl, ours are still in fruit and seed mode, tearing apart the sumacs and such
LInda, It is so good to see the signs of spring. My snow on the mountain wintered over under a snow bank and is so pretty and green!
FC COOL!! I have only ever seen one, what a treat!
Jeffro, during my many trips to the barn last night, I listened carefully for the woodcock...not yet....
