This guy was about the size of a grain of rice and right next to my garden chair.
See where he has been nibbling?
This eyed click beetle came buzzing loudly and landed right on my shirt.
Did I jump?
You betcha!
I love Sunday Stills but I wasn't really looking for volunteers
Dedicated to my dad on Father's Day. Thanks Dad, for giving me the interest in the birds and the bugs and all things scientific and natural and outdoors. My life has been much better because of all the interests you passed along. Love you!
For more Sunday Stills.....
Marvelous photos. I giggled when you described your "volunteer". Your Dad must be a great person. You have been blessed.
ReplyDeleteGreat macro shots of the bugs. I'm not really into bugs, but obviously Ed is!! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, especially the spider and grasshopper..:-)
ReplyDeleteNice collection of bugs! Thanks for participating.
ReplyDeleteI like the spider and that last bug even though it is pretty ugly.
Jen
Great pictures! Hope you have a good day.
ReplyDeleteThat first shot is awesome! Well done:)
ReplyDeleteI don't like volunteer bugs either!
ReplyDeleteI had a white spider like that on my daylilies last year. Not as many spiders here this year for some reason... at least, not yet.
You did a great job capturing the tiny critters!
ReplyDeleteYour Dad did a great job, but he passed on to you what you are giving to us!

I wll love to have a camera like yous.
ReplyDeleteLisa, thank you! That thing scared the heck out of me! I though it was a really, really big wasp or something and when I did see it, I was astonished.
ReplyDeletedibear, thanks, same here. I would much rather photograph birds, but they are right in the heart of nesting season and very shy just now.
Ed, thanks! I couldn't believe the grasshopper came out. He was SO tiny
WW, thanks, that last critter sure scared me when it buzzed onto my shirt. And you wouldn't believe that clicking business! They snap something in their thorax to click and it is so hard that I could barely hold it between two thick pieces of bark to take it down to photograph.
Lisa, thanks!
Far Side, thanks! I was amazed that it came out. It was too small to see any details with the naked eye...or at least it was if you are half blind like I am. lol
Shirley, now that you mention it I haven't see too many either, although there are several of these in the flower bed.Wonder why.
LInda, thanks! I really wanted birds over bugs, but they are deep in nesting time and very secretive just now. Even the blue jays are quiet and quickly in and gone.
Marleys Mom you wouldn't be spamming me now would you? I don't really want to watch them sing, but thanks for asking.
Ann, thanks, it is one of my favorite things in the world and has changed my life.
Beautiful sentiment! I love the photos too! ;) The red bird is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteWhat awesome photos! I especially love the grasshopper. Cardinals are always striking, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteFunny about the bug landing on ya. Nice to see your part of the country has greened up.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, thanks, I was wishing for some close ups but the birds are staying off in the hedgerows pretty much
ReplyDeleteDD, thank you! I love the bright flag of red when a cardinal flies by and their brilliant song as well.
RG, I about had a heart attack! The thing was the size of my thumb!
Oh! Oh! I love it! Only in the last few years have I started to love bugs.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know a click beetle. Cool.
Now I've been doing a little spider IDing and I'm pretty sure that neat spider is a Crab spider: Misumena vatia.
Cathy, thanks. I don't think I had ever seen a click beetle before either, but I guessed what it was because it clicked. HARD! It was a big thing. I believe you are right on the little spiders. That is what I have been thinking they are. Don't usually think of a spider as pretty but they kind of are...
