Rose quartz on the grave of Mike, my best dog ever
A nice stone wall across the road from the NFO convention
Feldspar from the same mine as the mica below
Mica or Isinglass,
they used to make wood stove windows from this mineral.
We collected this though
Herkimer Diamonds
A cool round rock I dragged down from the field
This rock and the two below are ones the boss brought me as gifts.
Some girls like diamonds, but I am found of large field stones.
My folks have been serious mineral collectors for quite some while, so some of the rocks around here are really more in the line of minerals. Then there are the other ones, which we pick up from the fields.

I like that one that blings. it is very big, you got it insured?
ReplyDeleteVery cool rocks, love the herkimer diamonds and mica..:-)
ReplyDeleteRock envy!
ReplyDeleteWe have sand.
Although I do have a H. diamond!
:)
You've taken some great ones.....I wondered if you'd feature Herkimer Diamonds. I love rose quartz and mica......something we don't see here.
ReplyDeleteBoy, your rocks ROCK!! Nice job. :)
ReplyDeleteThe rock fence is just so cool!
ReplyDeleteThose were super and I can't pick a favorite although I'd love to have that flat stone wall on my property!
ReplyDeleteLove the herkimer diamonds.. something really special :D
ReplyDeleteI love the feldspar picture.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a cool idea of using those rocks as a fence.
ReplyDeleteA little chip of that diamond would be a great bling!
You have some terrific rocks to photograph around there. Nice job!

That stone fence is gorgeous, what a work of art! I have a kitchen windowsill filled with rocks and fossils from all over the place. TSA runs your luggage through the scanner several times when you pack rocks in your dirty socks. :o)
ReplyDeletethe round one looks like a dino egg!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I love field stone and the rock wall. Well done!
ReplyDeleteOK, now I'm going to have to Google herkimer diamonds. Love the feldspar. When I was little, we had a wood stove that had a mica "window".
ReplyDeleteGoogling done! I'll have to see if our local rock and gem store has them.
loved the fence; neat and artistic, ecofriendly too. hardship is well appreciated
ReplyDeleteAnn, it is right out in my yard where anyone could walk away with it...just a quartz crystal, but I like it too, thanks
ReplyDeleteEd, thanks, we collected both at mines in the region
FC, and I am glad you do. I think of your rock envy all the time and wish there was a way to share our bounty...if you ever come north we will donate for sure
Linda, thanks, my rose quartz needs to be moved back into the sun though...it is losing some of its color.
dibear, thanks!
Jake, I think it is brand new and I am wondering who built it. thanks
MT I love walls too. Don't know who built this one but they did a great job
Wildblack, thanks, I love to go digging them. For twelve dollars you can dig all day and you never know what you will find.
Maggie, thanks!
Ebie, thanks, I think some people do mount them and use them as jewelry. That one is out in my backyard. lol
Laughing Orca, thanks, this was a great challenge
LInda, thanks, we are kindred souls! I really do love it when the boss brings me down a boulder from the field for my gardens.
Caroline, that is hilarious! My window sill has an ever changing array of pebbles too. When I get tired of them I toss them on top of the dirt in my plant pots.
Holly, exactly! lol it is one I dragged down from the field because it looked cool.
2BD, thanks, I love it when the boss brings me rocks
Shirley, if you ever come to this area of NY in the warm months you can dig all day at several mines for around twelve dollars. This one was dug by my brother. The place where the mica was collected by my dad and me is closed alas, same with the quartz
Henry, I keep wondering who built it as it looks quite new. Lots of stone walls in this area although not usually quite that neat. Farmers built them from the stones they found in their fields. Some were built before the Revolution and still wind through empty forests leaving a reminder of the long gone settlers here.
Great work and effort! So many varieties and forms of rocks!
ReplyDeleteI really like the stone wall photo---it's so different!
