O is for Oriole

This female Baltimore Oriole decided to be friendly after the catbird chased her away. Maybe she figured that I would keep him off her oranges.

  2. Oranges, didn't think of those....my local Lowes doesn't have one single Oriole feeder, a million hummer feeders, but none for Orioles, I was peeved.

I saw my first female Oriole this year, I had an instant of "is that a giant goldfinch??" before it clicked.

  3. Oh, you got some GOOD shots of her!
...AND of the pecked out parts of the oranges!
I think I could burn through 50# of oranges in a week with these birds!

  6. Rev. Paul, isn't she a glamour girl?

Caroline, their voices is a rich and fruity as their dinner too.

Ruth, I have had no luck at all with a feeder, finally put mine away, but oranges! Wow! I put the first one out and within an hour they were on it. Must be the same pair from last year because they knew right where to look

June, thanks. I would put out more, but I don't have any other really good spots. The orange itself was kind of overexposed but I didn't dare move anything but my shutter finger. lol

    Linda, thanks!

Cathy, precisely two towels away by clothesline measurement. She didn't care either. She was looking right at me. The male came down and scolded her away, then wouldn't land because I was there. I was having dreams of oriole grandeur and wishing that he would. I was all focused!

  8. Ruth, mine was also an el cheapo and never held nectar very well. It has amazed me to see the catbird coming in for orange every day. He has also eaten broccoli out of the compost bin. lol
