Oh, you got his red flash too! Good job! I saw one hummingbird, hurried to get the feeder out, and enjoyed them for a whole three days before they abandoned me yet again. I wonder what I'm doing wrong?
Jan, thanks, they are so tame, especially the two males that are visiting. The kids were standing on the porch talking to me and they flew right between their heads. Darned near flew right in Jade's ear! I love them!
LInda, I am so grateful to have them. I really am. They take away so many of my worries with their silly boldness and calm trust.
WW, sugar water. lol. I do boil the heck out of it though. actually I think some of these hatched here last summer and they are used to me.
June, thanks. I wonder why....Maybe a lot of flowers came into bloom. What do you feed them? I use 4 water to 1 sugar and boil it good when I make it. And they really like this old perching feeder with the vinegar bottle. I wish I could find another one like it. I have been through a number of other feeders that they pretty much ignored. This one is so worn out I had to paint fresh flowers on it for them.
I've tried different feeders and the only ones they ever used are the cheap little four-port things that look like . . . what . . . big water drops upside down. Maybe it is that the flowers burst into bloom about the time I saw my little ones. I think it isn't the solution (2 water:1 sugar) because they've always liked it before.... Maybe there's some bird around that they don't like....is there something that preys upon hummingbirds?
June, I don't know about the prey thing. My husband asked me the same question and I have no clue. I mix my nectar 4-1, but other than that I have no idea. it was funny yesterday. Hubby almost never comes out on the porch but he did before milking last night and what a show they put on for him, swirling around the porch fighting, sitting two at a time on the feeder, hovering in front of us. Little show offs. lol
That is so great, he looks like he's posing with just the right profile.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! I haven't seen one in two years here so I'm a little jealous.
ReplyDeleteWhat'd you put in that hummingbird feeder to get that bird to sit still? Great shots!
