With the Sunrise

Sometimes sitting on the porch as the sun comes up brings on the obvious....I realized this morning over that all-important first cup of coffee that, although I may be a mother, farmer, bookkeeper, intensely political and all, the heart's ruling passions don't necessarily match job titles. Deep in my heart.....

1) I live and breath birding. I will never be an expert, but I don't hear a chirp from the shrubbery or see a flash of wing without needing to know. I read field guides like novels and listen to iBird whenever I have the time.

2) To see it, hear it, learn it, is to put it into words in my mind. Inside my brain I write all day and night. Not much of it actually gets typed but....

3) I never go anywhere without the camera. The man who gave it to me probably wasn't planning on changing my life, the very way I see every ray of sunshine, every puddle, every cloud, but that is what happened. Before the Cannon PowerShot S3 IS, I took pictures with my tiny digital or the big old film camera, but it wasn't that important to me. Now I LOOK at everything, every minute, all the time, measuring how the things I see might be captured. Once again I will never be an expert, but taking photographs has become a ruling passion. I will never be able to thank him enough.

So that's me, if you wanted to know...

Who knew? Probably everyone but me.

  2. YES!!! Every time I come here to read and see what your day has been like, I feel so grateful that you are YOU, with your eye and your heart and your amazing way with words. And of coure, your wonderful camera. I SO relate to what you say about how your camera has changed your days. Me too. I have a little Canon PowerShot S95 that fits in my pocket, and even while it sits quietly in there, it changes how I look at the world every minute of every day.

  4. We were separated at birth :) It can be problematic for others when they have to stand-by while I'm going for a bug that they can't see and about which they could care less.

My only problem is that my kid-sis who recently visited got sharper pixes than I did while capturing the same zinnia-eating goldfinch.

Now my cherished camera is looking a little tarnished . Drats. Still it's my constant sidekick.

This is not an assignment, but here's a video I finally got of the wood thrush at dusk.

  5. Dani, you are so sweet to say that....and how I would love to visit your beaches, garden, poodles and girls...but I am afraid those who know me see a cranky old goat with an attitude. lol thanks

WW, thanks, I had to laugh at myself this morning, out before dawn in bathrobe and sneakers stalking the moon over the heifer barn. lol

Cathy, You take fantastic photos, write delightful poetry, and bring a lot of fun and happiness to my life as I am sure you do for those around you in "real" life. Loved the video, the sweet, tantalizing song of the wood thrush is a great favorite of mine. I got a huge kick out of your red-tailed hawk eating video. That was so funny when the man walked by and the hawk barely paid any attention. Must have been a tasty bunny....or whatever it was.
