I rarely go much of anywhere so this week's challenge required a special trip. The boss took me over to Evergreen Cemetery where his parents are at rest. It is always a beautiful place and was all the more so in the late in the day, hazy autumn sunlight. We saw pileated woodpeckers, blue jays and great big grey squirrels, plus we found a cannon neither of us have happened upon before. Such tranquility. Such peace.....
For more Sunday Stills.....
Glad you took the trip so we could enjoy these great shots. I love the tree 'tunnel'.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know there were any Cases buried in evergreen. Any relation to our Fred Case? I think I read Katherine CAse. That cannon would look good up on yur hill! Great shots.

Neat shots, probably a revoloutionary war marker nearby for the canon..:-)
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty cool cemetery, i don't very often go visit graves, but I do agree it is very peaceful there.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics. What a serene spot.
ReplyDeleteLove that shot of the evergreens lining the roads.
ReplyDeleteSome days I enjoy visiting cemeteries.
ReplyDeleteIt's as you say . . some are beautiful and if the boss's parents are in a place where pileated woodpeckers visit . . well . . that is lovely, as are your pictures.
Oh my God! the 3rd one, 3rd one, 3rd one...........my whole time fav' picture. I always dreamed walking through such roads. Awesome post. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteDani, thanks, it is a very lovely place and right across the river from us
ReplyDeleteMom, thanks, do you want us to go over and get the info off that stone? We could do so if it would be any help to you. Love you too!
Ed, I believe there are several graves of that vintage in that part of the cemetery. Thanks
Chrystal, thank you. Taking a few minutes to walk among the headstones is like traveling through history....
Janice, thank you. It truly is.
DD, thanks, I have tried to catch the feeling of that spot a number of times...guess this is about as close as I have ever come
Cathy, a good part of it is surrounded by a corn field and most years a local farmer grows corn in one of the expansion areas where no one is buried yet. It seems so fitting indeed. thanks
Henry, thank you for your kind words. As I said above I have tried for several years to capture the sense of walking under those lovely trees....it is much better than the photo indicates
I think the third shot is amazing too and I love the last shot.. :) Interesting and lovely "on the road" shots! This was a cool challenge.
ReplyDeleteThe cemeteries back East are always so much different from ours and they go back way much longer into history. We only go back to early 1880s. I would love to walk in the shadows there.

Pix, thank you, it was really interesting this week
ReplyDeleteLinda, how I wish you could. If you ever come east we will take you over. Amazingly those stones I took a pic of include one from a family my mother is researching for our genealogy that may be related.
Love, love LOVE the third shot. Makes me want to explore down that road, and the horse ans buggy sign in another shot is priceless! Thanks for sharing!
