Nevermore

The boss and I were standing in the barnyard yesterday...I was holding the heifers away from the open gate and he was getting on the skid steer to bring up bales...when we heard a distinct and unusual, at least in this area, sound.

"What's that!" quoth he.

"A raven," said I.

And pointed to it flying by.

First one in several years, probably only the third occurrence I've seen on the farm. Not particularly welcome birds in terms of livestock harassment, but pretty cool for my bird counts.

  6. Cathy, I am kind of glad they only fly by and go on their way. The first time we saw them and I was all excited, my rancher friends from way out west told me that they will injure baby animals..calves and lambs...and even kill them. so I am happy that they move right along. still...cool to count one.
