Hold Me in Sunlight

This photo by Alan

Spare me from the hunter's moon

And coyotes howling on the hill

I don't like it in the dark,

I'm sure I never will.

The sun and color have my heart,

The rising tide of daybreak

Morning is my favorite hour

I can't abide the evening.

Wrap me in robins,

Sing me some sparrows,

Charm me with blue jays outspoken.

I'll sleep when the sun goes down

And thank you for daybreak each morning.

  1. Beautiful! Your blog is often like my morning sunrise, since I turn to it first each day. Although I personally do love the black velvet night, stars shimmering on the still water, the barking call-and-response of a pair of Barred Owls.

  5. Probably one of the most beautiful prayers I've read.

It speaks to every fiber of my being.

I'm emailing you my darker version.
    You'll understand.

  7. WW, thank you so much for your very kind words. I like the outdoors at night too, but I am very much a creature of the daylight. lol

    Rev. Paul, thanks!

Robert, I would be very flattered if you were to do so, and thank you so much for your kind words. Coming from as talented a poet as yourself they mean a lot. Feel free to use this any way that you would like.

Thank you, Mama! I love you too.

Cathy, thank you! I can't wait to read yours!

Linda, thank you so much. Of course you may copy it if you wish.

Got it! Soon as I can I will send a rough MP3 to you and see if you approve... remember, don't worry about my feelings, I want honesty...I had to change a word or three... don't want to mess up your work, would just like to enhance it... thanks Marianne, I usually do not enjoy free verse and I love this!
