Aftermath

I did not look forward much....to Christmas this year.  At least I can "shop" for the kids among my own treasures, as they love books and shootin' irons and all.....

But I won't lie. I was feeling pretty Grinchy. Or Scroogy. Or something of that ilk.

And then wonder took a hold. Yesterday morning the barn was crowded with our grown kids and son-in-law. They stood in the aisle talking and joking and teasing each other, and it was happy.....We are getting a new daughter-in-law, who is as special a person as you will ever find. We are expecting a new grandbaby, who is already loved beyond belief.

How could I not feel joyful?

If you let go of the frenzy of stuff..... Shop, shop, shop.... And take in hand instead the simple wonder of having a supporting, loving, and downright fun family, the season becomes what it is meant to be.

And so it did for me.

  1. Ah, you've nailed all that's wrong with the modern Christmas season, right there. We've taken our eyes off of what's important, and traded it for stuff.

  2. A heartfelt "Amen."
I could feel the warmth in that barn all the way over here in snowy Ohio.

You are so so right. I understand the economics of the season, but it is easy to overlook what is really important.

  4. You are blessed and rich in many ways. My son was in Afghan. For two Christmas in a row. He served 16 months straight and was in a very dangerous place. Now I think even small things are a blessing and having my son home safe is a gift money cannot buy. We are al blessed and sometimes take it for granted.

  5. You are so blessed! And doubly so, because you know it and acknowledge your blessings. Thank you for reminding us of ours.

  7. Rev. Paul has said it best...stuff is not what Christmas is about, it's about love and family and well, you know the rest!

  8. Rev, Paul, take the feeding frenzy and pressure of shopping out of Christmas and suddenly you have a beautiful holiday, full of peace and joy.

Cathy, wish I could have caught the shot when they were ALL standing together, laughing and talking. Alas, I had to put the milking machine on Dublin before I got out my camera....

Jan, take away the shopping and what is left is truly wonderful...sucks to be broke though. lol

Ellie, I simply can't imagine how you must have suffered. I fret and worry every week when my boy is just a couple of states away...but Afghanistan...wow....I am glad he is home safe now.

Jacqueline, I have a very dark heart and I have to keep reminding myself, always, that there is plenty to light it up if only I look for and appreciate the lights.

Linda, yup, and we are both rich in that department!
