Especially around the house and barns and buildings.
THIS however, is ridiculous!
This is only part of the flock of turkey vultures that were perching on the barn roof and in the dead elm tree this morning when I went out.
Shoo! Shoo! Just get the heck out of here!!
Mommeeeeee!! Scary for sure . .. but what great pictures :)
ReplyDeleteNo! No!
ReplyDeleteWe have a colony that roosts across the street. One of life's joys is sitting on the patio with a cool one and watching them come in to roost of an evening. Watch them closely, they are amazing.
Now, now. . . The Turkey Vulture is the first bird of spring around these parts. And just as in the case of our first flower, the Skunk Cabbage, not many poets sing its praises. But what a stinky world we would have without them. They are a bit creepy, though. Amazing to see them so close and so crowded together.
ReplyDeleteCathy, they were quite a sight up there!
ReplyDeleteSDV, I do watch them, really, beautiful flyers. It was just disconcerting to find them so close to the house in such numbers. Wonder what brought them to the barn roof. There are no animals there...
Jacqueline, it was odd to find them perched out there. They have been hanging around a lot more than normal and we are wondering if there is an old road kill deer down in the creek that they can smell but can't get to conveniently. Haven't seen one, but the kids thought one got hit last winter. I don't really mind them at all, just thought it was funny to find them there on the roof. I have an old pic of one sitting on a no trespassing sign we used to have. Macabre!
Marianne, Have you checked out the Beekman Boys Save the mortgage idea for small farms?
