Or pears prognosticate?
Does it mean anything that I have heard from both Washington DC and Alaska over the past couple of days that the geese are already on the move?
Samaras anyone? No ash borers in this tree yet I guess |
I don't know, but I was out on the sitting porch yesterday and SMELLED fall. The weedy, harsh scent of crushed goldenrod and dying leaves was blowing on the stiff, chilly breeze. The male honeylocust is turning golden already and you should hear the cottonwoods chattering their leaves.
I am in no way ready for this, but I don't think it cares out there. Early winter? Hard winter? El nino like the experts are saying?
If only I could read the future in the fruit......
Harbinger? |
Oh Noooooo . . . . . I just had this conversation with my brother . . .
ReplyDeleteBut your forebodings are so poetic and I would just like to say:
Noooooo!!!!
Yikes! Here the leaves are falling from lack of moisture. But they are saying warm and wet here this winter, that most likely means you'll be getting the cold :(
ReplyDeleteWe're supposed to have another mild winter, up here, but it still seems to be turning toward autumn a bit earlier than usual.
ReplyDeleteHOT in NE MN right now, but definite signs of fall...Geese are gathering, seagulls as well, and tinges of red on the English Ivy on the front porch. Also the Mountain Ash berries turned orange overnight. There is a feeling too, of slowing and the grass is not growing as fast.Long fall predicted and mild for us up this far North too. ALl good ...love the pictures. THANK YOU..---smiles, Merri
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I'm not ready! Please, NOOOOOOOO!!! Although, I've noticed the trees are starting to show signs of fall.
ReplyDeleteSigh!

Cathy, I am totally with you. This is a beautiful time of year, but I can't help but think...every day...of what is to come. And thanks
ReplyDeleteNita, it kills me to read the predictions. They are so very divergent. lol
Rev. Paul, same here...maybe....
Merri, we went down to the river last night and there were clouds of Red-winged Blackbirds swirling everywhere. I am sure they are just fattening up before migration right now, but they will be gone before we know it. I used to love fall, but since we have lived in this cold house, not so much. lol
Linda, I was looking at your irises yesterday and thinking about digging them. lol
