Construction Pro

There is nothing like having one in the family.

A week ago our back porch was missing half its boards and hanging from the roof, with the bottom not touching the concrete floor.

Skunks got in around the door and tore up the trash.

We talked about fixing it for years...

And years....

And years.

Then our favorite construction pro and his dad decided to actually do the deed.

Original plans called for saving as much of the old wall as possible, but it fell apart as soon as Alan banged on it, so they built an entirely new wall.

We have also lived without ether a porch light or outside lights for at least 20 years....no one wanted to mess with the old knob and tube wiring....

Now, we have light both inside and out. Outlets to plug in freezers so the lead cord no longer has to be run out the window.

Looks as if we are moving up in the world. Nice job, guys, thanks.

  3. Next you will have insulation in it to keep out the cold.

  4. Mom, I will, thanks. They did do an amazing job and I am so proud of them. Still got some mess to clean up, but things have been done we have talked about for decades, such as getting the old concrete sink out of there to put by the outdoor faucet to wash vegetables and such. Big project! Love you!

Joated, I am so pleased with them.

Ellie, believe it or not there is already insulation behind that plywood on the inside. It is so much warmer in the kitchen already! And lights! And an automatic door closer for the outside door, which lines it up all straight and snug. No more skunks!!!

  5. Yeah! That was no small feat just before winter.

  6. A sink would be great to wash veggies from the garden, saves a lot of dirt in the kitchen. That porch is going to keep a lot of cold out of the house.

  7. Nita, the lights! I used to have to juggle a Jack Russell terrier on a leash, plus a flashlight plus two doors and a Dachshund. Now I just hit the switches and the whole yard and porch light up. Yay!

Ellie, it is something we have always wanted to do, but it was really hard. The sink weighs around four hundred pounds being solid concrete. It still sits in the center of the driveway, alas...
