The Moon on the Breast of the New-Fallen Snow....

"Gave a luster of midday to objects below...."

Yeah, a snapping, snarling little squall dumped a smattering of snow on us last night. Just enough to make it feel colder than it was, and it was plenty cold enough. Then the wind rattled the trees and scooped up the flakes and gave them the old who-flung.

I came downstairs in the middle of the night and it was bright enough to throw sharp shadows from the trees and through the banister in the front hall.

It caused me to remember a couple of words from another Christmas classic........

"Bah humbug!"

On Dancer and Prancer, on Dunder and Blixem....
only there were an even dozen there this morning, not just eight
Kind of like spare tires right?
Only spare deers.

  1. That last line . . . . :-D

It can't last, my friend. Warmth and spring must triumph.

  2. Gore et al seem to be wrong in their predictions of a world without snow.

  4. Must be nice to have all that wonderful wild life to photograph! I wish we had a little more land and could be off the beaten path. I need to go out in the woods more often, or get up a lot earlier in the morning. You sure do have some wonderful pictures.

  6. Cathy, we were so spoiled by the winter that wasn't. And now March is acting all March-like and tossing around wild winds and wintry weather. Ugh! I shouldn't complain, but it does bring on the humbugs.

Jan, yeah, I guess they don't realize that we are all capable of looking out the window and feeling the air temperature. lol

    Linda, same here

Lisa, thanks! Deer are a mixed blessing. They are pretty and one or two in the freezer come winter is nice, but they are also destructive and bear gifts of ticks to a ridiculous point. I like to see them though, just the same.

FC, yowsa, seems as if it would be late in the year for you. We are a good two months away from trustworthy weather for things that don't like cold. I'm ready though! lol
