Life on a family farm in the wilds of Upstate New York

what a delightful little creature. I must buy a feeder. All I have are lavender plants which attracts them for a short time
What excellent photos, Marianne! Well done!
Jan, she has become quite companionable as summer has advanced. She will feed at the feeder when I am there and perch on the string if I hold still. If you do put out a feeder you have the potential to see a lot more species than here. Ruby-throated is the only reliable species in NY. California has LOTS!
Linda, thanks, she has become quite friendly

Awwww . . . that is so sweet :)
Cathy, I am wondering if "she" is more than one bird, perhaps a mother and a young of the year. I have seen only a female, or more than one perhaps, this summer. Sometimes one flies right up to my face, drinks from blossoms right next to me, and is generally my good buddy. Sometimes if I breathe she is gone. So maybe different birds. Can't tell.
