  2. Great choice and capture!! I wonder what the lettering on the cannon stands for. Do you know any of the back story on it? I've never seen one fired live, have you?

  3. Happy 4th of July! WE had an old neighbor who had one he would shoot it off at noon on the 4th, it would rattle the windows:)

  4. Shirley, thanks, it is a beast! I need to find out the story behind it. I am sure someone local knows.

Aurora, as far as we know the lettering stands for the Grand Army of the Republic. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Army_of_the_Republic
I have indeed seen (and heard) cannons fired at Revolutionary War Reenactments up in the county to the north of us. I don't know if they will have it again after the pandemic stopped everything, but it used to be a lot of fun to visit the market fair and see the people in period costumes and to talk to them about the era. Thanks

Far side, thanks! I can imagine! They had fireworks at the speedway about a mile from us last night and the grand finale, as you said, rattled the windows and set the dogs to barking. Pretty though, and I can watch from my chair in the living room.

  5. Wow that's quite the cannon! Love how very old it is and the crisp and new the flag is!
