Al-Zarqawi
We are getting ready to go out to milk the cows and Fox news is muttering in the background. According to news sources, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed by coalition forces in a safe house in Northern Iraq. Despite this having been a major coalition goal, as he was blamed for inciting much of the insurgent violence that has slowed the effort to build a new government in Iraq, the news folks are falling all over themselves trying to find some reason that this is a bad thing, or at least not a good one. They so hate the Bush administration that they deny them even this. Al-Zarqawi is blamed for beheadings of foreign captives and hundreds of roadside bombings. Whether the press likes it or not, he won’t be missed.

Well I for one am doing a happy dance! I don't watch TV much, but the NYT has a pretty positive news story & editorials this morning.
I did see some guarded optimism - not to rest on our laurels, like after Saddam was captured. Then, everyone was jubilant and thinking the worst was over and we know what's happened since then. Gen Casey was quoted as saying "don't get hopes up, this is just one step in the process."
Other than the obvious cause for jubilation there was a report that because of this oil prices were dropping. I am always amazed at the "knee jerk" reaction of the commodity traders when events happen. Hope the cows are more contented now.
Carina,I am not a TV watcher either (takes away from my computer time) but the boss had it on. Opinions seemed to become more positive as the morning wore on. I find you get some interesting news reports early in the morning that are never aired again.
Macbene gene, I know just what you mean about the commodity pricing thing. It just kills me to see the price for something that is long since manufactured or processed and already in the store, go up because the futures market for the raw materials does.
And the cows are mad about the weather. On a normal morning they want to go right back outdoors as soon as they are milked. Today they lay down in their stalls and didn't want to get back up. Can't say as I blame them.
The media will take what ever track they feel they can the most play out of and exploit it to the hilt. I looks like the Coatition Forces hit a major intel jackpot with this safe house and use the intel to raid numerous other locations. I would just like to see more positive being done by the Muslim Clerics as far as helping the newly formed Iraqi government to quell the reactionary violence. i think once they can get that type of violence under control they will be able to go after the insurgency that is attempting to incite the retaliation and sectarian violence.
Today's news seems to be that he didn't die from the bombs, but later from his wounds. Or he may have been tortured by American forces. I think somehow he may end up a sympathetic figure in the media.

I'm glad we got him I just wish the media would see this as a good step in the right direction. One day they say that we should have had him long ago and that we are failing in our mission, after we kill him they say that he is only one man and that this means very little...I wish these anti-bush anti-do the right thing folks would just admit that nothing will make them happy and then shut up.
