The river and its clone
This is the Mohawk River at Fonda. The trees you see in the center of the two channels are not an island. They are the northern bank of the river. The second "river" was a corn field yesterday with some of the best corn in the county growing on it. Now, well..... it is not.
Emergency helicopters are flying over and the police prevented our feed rep from getting here. At least the milk tanker finally made it in.
(drifting in via BlogMad and your comment - thanks, btw.)
ReplyDeleteYikes!! Hope all of you and yours stay safe.
I suspect that threecollie is without electricity, phone, and internet, as the entire valley is flooded and in a state of emergency. Believe me, being without power on a dairy farm is not easy!
ReplyDeleteThe river is just cresting now, and more thunderstorms are popping up this afternoon to add to the misery. Although I know that threecollie and her family are high on a hill and are not flooded, I suspect that it will be days before anyone can get in or out of the farm.
My thoughts are with you!
Thanks for thinking of us. We were indeed stranded and getting pretty close to the bone, alomst running out of diesel for the generator, trying not to overheat the tractors we were using, trying to haul the generator back and forth from the house to cool the milk and do milking and not lose our two freezers. Looks okay for now.

ReplyDeleteI'm currently in Michigan but have realtives in Amsterdam, Tribes Hill, and Herkimur.
When I was growing up Fonda was one of the places my grandparents always took me.
I hope you are able to save your farm and your family is safe.
Hi K, thanks for visiting. We had some losses, but we truly were fortunate compared to so many who lost all their belongings and much of their cropland.
