It means the snowflake has been through the climactic wringer, circulating from warmer levels to much colder ones several times at a fairly rapid speed, only allowing for partial melting and deformation of the crystaline structure until the weight of the snow pellet exceeds its "loft" based on its size.

It makes for funny shoveling and noisy precipitation on the tin roof over the milk room.

Oh yeah ... Chicken Little advises me the sky is falling, too.

Thank you Wil. It is pretty neat looking stuff and was soon followed by those big fluffy flakes that look like goose down. Very pretty.

it looks like perlite also, we use it at work to lighten the grout. sometimes.

Hey bro....you couldn't tell the mini snowballs from the perlite I use to make my potting soil lighter. lol
