Could be a rackabore bone

One of my read-'em'-every-day type favorite bloggers, Florida Cracker, posted an interesting puzzler today on his blog. (He is a teacher and likes to test us.)

Most guesses run toward mineral block or salt lick, but I am thinking maybe it is a rackabore bone. We see 'em all the time up here in the hilly country of Upstate NY and I am thinking maybe one retired to somewhat flatter Florida and succumbed out in FC's warm southern forest. Take a look and tell me what you think.

Hi Joni, I can't wait to read the answer. Lots of times FC puts up pictures of things that are unique to Florida and thus all Greek to me, but this looks especially interesting.

Caroline...I haven't been out yet for night milking, but I fed her this morning and she was good. Eager for her bottle and lively. I gave her a goodly pile of extra bedding in case she had trouble adjusting to the barn after being in the warm house.

ThreeCollie,
Well, it might have been a rackabore, but here's the real story.

It's a leftover chunk of mineral block from school. I read that you could simulate stalactite formation in the lab by dripping water through chunks of mineral block, so the kids designed setups that would drip water over the mineral block chunks that were suspended on a screen mesh. We were supposed to see stalactites forming after a few weeks, but mostly we just rusted out a bunch of lab equipment!
