But this is so horrible

That I truly feel sick about it. These poor people losing all their years of hard work, having to kill so many cattle, probably because the government doesn't do a very good job of managing wildlife problems.

I was just reading about that. Truly tragic. Can't even imagine... :(

I feel so bad for the folks involved. We had a false positive once, but they just quarantined the cow for several years until we told the state that we needed to sell her. Then magically she tested clear....it was a flaw in the test, not a problem with the cow and they knew it.

This is a tough situation for the ranchers, politicians, wildlife advocates and government regulators. There's no clear-cut answer.

Notice, for instance, neither the article nor the commenters pointing fingers at our neighbors to the North who arbitrarily declared their nation to be "brucellosis-free" and stopped testing?

No, we'd rather claim wolves spread brucellosis, according to a (un-cited) study by Russian scientists(?), blame European cattle imports, Yellowstone bison and elk or the boogeyman in the next box canyon.

What a mess, no?
