This poor man amputated his own arm after getting it caught in a farm implement, which then caught on fire. Our corn picker sits up in one of our fields abandoned because it was too darned dangerous to run...

Just out of curiosity - do y'all use the pull behind pickers that leave corn on the cob? We use corn heads on our combines to harvest the stuff.
Of course, it isn't on the cob anymore, either. There isn't much of a market for corn on the cob out here, and no one keeps cribs anymore. I see some cribs in Nebraska sometimes.
Jeffro, yeah, we have the kind that saves the whole cob...we have a combine too, but we have never used the corn head. Don't really have enough ground to grow corn to shell...we raise corn silage instead. Not so many have cribs here anymore either, but you see a few around and the Amish have a lot of them.
And that was a horrible story. Farming is just so darned dangerous.
My aunt's third husband tore off his own fingers (on both hands) to keep from being pulled in further. I also had a girlfriend in high school who was lucky enough to walk away with nothing more than a large scar on her arm. Scary machines indeed.
