Back when I was a teenager driving my dad's tractor for the summer, hawks hunting mice I stirred up were my companions. I really got a kick out of them. There might be one or fifteen, and they generally all got fed.

Thanks for jarring loose a memory!

Makes me glad I'm above him on the food chain.

Jeffro, we get the same thing and love every minute of it. Sparrow hawks (kestrels) hover like flying crosses and snatch small things, the big red tails and marsh hawks (harriers) soar and tilt over the fields hunting the bigger things...it is wonderful. We also love the swallows and swifts that follow the tractor and measure our summer days by the numbers and species. They are good company up there on the hill.

Jan, pretty impressive for a little bird, isn't he (or she)?
