Common Merganser
Canada goose (begging, although we didn't feed them)

Life on a family farm in the wilds of Upstate New York

I could never be bored with your pictures or topics! The common mergansers are colorful and the loons, my favorite. We have both species here as well but a loon sighting is rare.
It warms my heart when you share the love you have for your brothers. I lost my brother 24 years ago. We were very close. He was also a musician. His son has come to live with us. He was just a baby when he died but he inherited his Dad's love for music and plays the guitar as well as my oldest son. Their music brings back wonderful memories of the great times we spent as a family.
Great picture of the loon - wish I was up north in a canoe right now!
Mungo
Never bored, keep the pics and stories coming. What is it about those pesky brothers anyway! I miss mine terribly, especially now that we are doing hay. Just hearing the baler brings tears to my eyes.
I'm so glad you had a relaxing vacation. Now we get to share - Thanks
There's no time to be bored on a dairy right?
Keep em coming.
Hmmm, would that be a Taylor guitar?
Naw, I ain't bored. Love the pics.
I am learning to play the mandolin, to accompany my husbands fantastic guitar playing.
It's kinda backwards from playing the quitar, but there are some GREAT mandolin pieces out there.
It's so much fun...but yeah, the sore fingers hurt a bit, until ya start forming those good kind of calluses.
another Jan
Never bored, I've enjoyed "going on holiday" with you these past couple of posts.
It looks and sounds like you enjoyed your vacation. We had a great time and the best weather you could ask for. Such a relaxing week!!!! I'll have to show you some pics.

Such wonderful photos. I just love water fowl, they are so interesting.
I love the sound of a loon. Here is a OneCowgirl confession...I once got in loads of trouble by trying to put a loon noise track/sound effects in a film about the North Cascades;;;the ranger said that is a loon from another area....
deb, thank you for those kind words. I am so terribly sorry to hear about your brother. What a tragic loss. It is wonderful that the music has been passed on to his son. It amazes me how healing and inspiring home made music can be.
Mungo, thanks, and me too, believe me. I didn't get in the canoe last week, but I had a great time photographing the kids when they were out in it.
Nita, thanks, and I am so very sorry about how you are missing your brother...I hate to even imagine. I don't see my pair anywhere near as often as I should but they are great guys, just wonderful. Always there when needed, always kind....
FC, you are right. Boredom is very rarely a problem for me...and if the kids ever admitted to being bored we always handed them a chore to relieve the problem. Worked like a charm.
JB, yes, it is a Taylor, and thanks
Jan, I am impressed you can play mandolin. I had one when I was a kid, but never got the hang of it. Thanks for visiting and taking time to comment!
Linda, thanks, it is fun for me to savor the memories with them. Been a pretty awful summer here and it was a relief to leave it behind for a week.
NYV, thanks, I would love to see your pics. It is certainly lovely where you vacation. Someday I would like to see that area.
Matt, miss you too. I tried to call you yesterday but couldn't track you down. As soon as I get a chance I will burn you a CD of all the Peck's pics. There are quite a few of you and your kids that you will probably enjoy. sure was a fine week, wasn't it?
Laurie, thanks. I love them too. We saw so many interesting things, which I just didn't get photos of...like a set of common merganser babies and mom...too small to fly. They were skittering across the lake like little jets churning up the water trying to get to shore. I think a pike was after them!
onecowgirl.....awww...he should have let you put it in anyhow. They are so wonderful to hear. I have loon calls on some of the functions on this computer, just because I love to hear them. I took dozens of pics of this guy in the rain, but most of them look pretty much alike...
Love the Mergansers!
Thanks WR, it was great having the new camera as they never come close enough for good pictures...so wild!
