A collage of blue jays gobbling seeds as fast as they can stuff them in their bills and a video so you can see exactly how fast that is. They clean two or three of these big sunflower heads every day....and this is the last one I have. They are such beautiful birds though that I always am glad when they come out of hiding in the fall when baby rearing season is over.

I, too, think they are beautiful. However, the ones here are so aggressive that everything else goes into hiding.
I like them, too. What I want to know is: how did you get the sunflower heads off the stalks before they were stripped clean? I gave up on growing them years ago. :)
Great collage at top. That's a nice technique, and utilitarian too: you can get a lot of variations on the same theme that would otherwise take up lots of space.
g's cottage, same here, they scream that alarm call they have as they come in and every other bird scatters. This is the first year since West Nile hit that we have had any number of them
Akagaga, I harvested before the birds started on them. Even so they got a lot out in the garden, but I needed to save seed so I cut them quite early
robert, thanks, I love the collage tool and the new picasa makes it even better. I take a lot of pictures, but putting them all individually in a post make for awful slow page loads.
We have finches so tiny they can balance on the sunflowers for munching. The big birds have to grovel on the ground to get the leftovers. It is quite a show. Wish I were talented in photographing it.
