This picture, however, has nothing to do with my weekly tirade. It is my kitchen floor just after it was painted a couple of years ago.
It desperately needs a new coat of this pleasant and inspirational green.
(I read once that green kitchens inspire cooks to be creative. No idea if this is true, but some amazing things come out of this particular room.)

Another great Farm Side......wouldn't it be nice if other states would follow U of Iowa and try to find a viable solution instead of just playing the blame game? We can always hope.
ReplyDeleteI love your green kitchen floor and your kitchen. Would love to seem more - are those cabinets in the photo? What a beautiful room.
I like that green on the floor, I like knowing there are farmers and folks willing to do it their way and find solutions besides writing in big city industrial (unsustainable print) newspapers.
ReplyDeleteLove the floor, We have one painted floor, and it is in need of repainting, I dread the moving of everything and cleaning.
ReplyDeleteGood farmside too, now with all the flooding in PNW, logging is getting the blame for peoples houses sliding off of hills. There is never any mention of whose idea was it to build on such a steep slope to begin with... A fellow nearby cut too many trees so he could see the river from his yard, and now the slope is trying to become part of the river ;) , but since his buildings straddle a canyon, and he forgot to clean his culverts, he is sueing the adjoining landowner for logging that took place nearby, because of course, it isn't his fault! Oh yeah, did I mention he is an environmentalist. Apparently he was enhancing his property values when he cut his trees, but the neighbor was logging. grrrr.
And it looks so pretty with the yellow walls and dark cabinets...
ReplyDeleteI think mommy needs cookies. And I think I'll make some tomorrow...
OOH! I am gushing over that floor and those cupboards! WOWOWOW! Those are some things a really appreciate in life. We painted our living room floor last year right around this time- I was really happy with our results too- http://jubbyplace.blogspot.com/2008/02/happy-friday-i-am-so-glad-weekend-is.html

What a beautiful kitchen! And the green floor is amazing. I have a brown floor, but green....maybe I should go to green as I want to be a better cook.

That is one beautiful kitchen!! Did your husbands family build it? Looks like a lot of love went into it.
ReplyDeleteGreen with envy over all the homebaked goodies coming out of the kitchen... :-)
ReplyDeleteStopped by via Sunday Stills and really enjoyed spending some time with your blog! :) I have one Border Collie, Sophie, that I write about...yours are great looking dogs! Love reading about rural life....I will be back often for a visit. :)
ReplyDeleteDeb, thanks, it was such a rant I almost didn't link to it, but the article just ticked me off. I expected better of the authors.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words on the kitchen. It needs a good paint job just now.
Earl, thanks, I love it too! Thanks for your kind words..
Nita, thanks, I love painted floors, but the dogs and the sand are so hard on the paint job.
What a story about your neighbor. I can believe it though. People bought vacant lots out here and then couldn't understand why they didn't have municipal water!
anon, mommy needs something...cookies might help
Joce, I like your floor too! Nice and bright and pretty. I love painted floors anyhow for some reason. Most of our upstairs floors are painted.
Linda, I don't know if the floor makes any difference, but we all cook a lot.
Dani, thanks, the house has quite a story...we don't know if it's true, but it comes down from the boss's dad who worked for several of the early owners. Seems there were brothers of a rich local family. They both were getting married and they each began to build fancy houses, one trying to outdo the other. The other house was still standing across the river from here when I was a kid, but it burned down many years ago. Quite a shame, as it was at least on the outside as nice as this one.
Ed, I am so lucky to have two daughters who are both great cooks...
Andrea, thanks so much for stopping by and for your kind words. I am much enjoying Sunday Stills and meeting a lot of wonderful new folks. I think I will be enjoying your blog too!
okay, threecollie, that is too freaky. we have the same kitchen! Wainscott (wood), built-ins, and I paint my kitchen floor too! I don't think Liz came in when she was here. Cool beans!
ReplyDeleteTEri, I'll bet yours is neater than mine. lol...ours only looked that nice for about as long as it took to move the furniture back. Right now there is about an acre of newspaper for placing wet boots, a lot of stuff the cat has been dragging around and maybe a bushel or two of wet gloves and socks.
ReplyDeleteYour whole house is so pretty! I have enjoyed the pics you have posted of the outside....What color is your floor painted?
I'm curious - where was the competing house on the north side? Is the foundation still there? Was it down on the state road or up on the county road?
ReplyDeleteAnon, it was on Route 5 near where the sharp hairpin turn is west of the village of Fonda. A hay barn remains right near where it was. No idea about the foundation. It is thought to have been the location of one of the last outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in the US and the boss's dad remembered them euthanizing the cows and burning them.
