Was held yesterday where my kids attend college. Liz and I drove down to listen to the good senator offer his views on solutions for today's dairy pricing melt down and to allow farmers to offer their input on what would be the best course.
It was a good meeting and I was favorably impressed with Mr. Schumer. He clearly really understood milk pricing and farming and knew many farmer spokesfolks by their first names. I liked him a lot more than I expected to and I have always felt that he made a real effort to do well for farmers.
Anyhow, the meeting will be the focus of this week's Farm Side, which I must write today because I have another meeting tomorrow (it is farmer meeting season).
One of the highlights of the meeting was enjoying the cutest little farmer baby you ever saw. We know his family from Dairy Bowl and college and all and he was just a little cutie! He sat right in front of Liz and me and we flirted shamelessly with him through a good part of the meeting.
And his mama had the world's best diaper bag.
The practical, yet chic farm kid diaper bag.

It's hard not to flirt with any baby once your children grow up to be teenagers and beyond....
But, a farmer baby! That is special. And the diaper bag is GREAT! Almost makes me want to have another baby. But, not quite! I look forward to the Farmside this week too.
Now that is a farm kid's diaper bag!
Well, considering some of the things Schumer has said and done in the past, I'm very happy he seems to be on the side of the Dairy Farmers, however, I can't help but to always wonder what his underlying motives are and what he is NOT saying.
Political cynisim? Ya think? LOL.
J.W.
Anybody ask Chuckie if he likes pork rinds? I hear he's gotten an awful lot of them lately.
As J.W.intimated...you have to watch your back around the Senator.
He'll take your guns away from you if he gets his way.
Teri, he was so cute!
The Wife, I loved it!
JW, not cynicism at all, just realism. I don't think you can trust very many politicians and he is on the wrong side of the aisle for me. I am sure he was just as charming to the next group he addressed too. He has voted for farm friendly legislation though and I am grateful for it.
Joated, good one! And I am afraid that is the case with most of them. I once ended up sitting down at a neighbor's dining room table with our current Secretary of State. The phoniness was palpable, although she laid on the charm a foot deep. Schumer pretty consistently votes right on farm issues and I have to give him that.
Lee, which is why I never have nor ever will vote for him. The gun bills on the table right now scare the heck out of me and the furor over the guns under Gillibrand's bed is an outrage. We have to work with who we have in office on milk pricing though so we have to have the dialog.
Yes the pricing of milk and the cost of farming has changed drastically. I think these type of seminars are essential for dairy farmers to get new ideas about how to improve their methods and how to tackle recession.
