Just for Dairy Farmers

****And of course for consumers who are interested in what happens behind the scenes in the milk production industry.

John Bunting has had several posts this week on processor profits (up 176% this year at one notorious company) and how the International Dairy Foods Association, which represents the big food companies (which are growing ever richer at the expense of dairymen and women) have sent a letter decrying efforts by government officials to direct a little more cash toward struggling farms. Worth reading. I learn something every day.

Thanks, Linda, the competition is very, very stiff for a small county fair, so I will be lucky to even figure in the lower ribbons, but it is lots of fun to print a few now and then.

I'm frustrated by how much America is leaning toward ... a sort of capitalist feudalism, I guess, in which rich powerful people suck all the wealth out of everyone else. What's happening to farmers is the same shape as what's happening to everyone with health insurance. All the money gets squeezed to the top. A few people make staggering amounts of money, while most don't have enough to live on -- or work on, in the case of farmers. I think it's wrong, and it's certainly impractical and unsustainable, as the economic collapse is demonstrating.
